I have recently been having a lot of problems with my Emerson Mini CQC-7. It hasn't gotten much use since I bought it a few months ago until this last week. The first problem is just cosmetic but whenever I use it, it gets big black scratches in the "satin" finish. Not a big deal but I like my knives and guns to look nice. Second is that occasionally when I use it, chips come out of the blade. I dropped it today (gloves caused me to lose my grip) and when it hit the ground, numerous chips came out of the front edge, effectivly dulling it. Also, two weeks ago when I opened it up, I noticed that the tip was gone, a chip had apparently come off flattening the tip. I am really dissapointed considering the cost of this knife. I think that I will spend half the cost of the Emerson to get a new Mini Griptillion for EDU. I like the Emerson and will get it resharpened but it just doesn't stand up like I need it to. My Buck has withstood much more use but it is still fine, dull but still in great shape other than a worn out spring. Anyone else have these problems with their Emersons? I have a theory and would like to know what some of the Gurus think. Could these problems be caused by the way Emerson uses a chisle ground edge? It makes it rediculously sharp but it is also very thin and possibly more fragile. In regards to my upcomming replacement, I am done with tanto blades for now so which style should I go with? I am thinking about getting the Spyderco style blade with a plain edge. What are the advantages of the different blade styles and combo vs plain edges?
