thinking about putting a eotech 512 and a flip up magnifier on a AR platform 458 socom rifle for deer hunting...do you think this will be a good optic setup for brush hunting as well as field hunting up to 200 yard

The EOTech 512 is good for as far as your eyes allow you to put the dot on the kill zone of a deer without a magnifier.

I have a 512 on my old SP1 Colt Carbine and have shot under 1" five-shot groups at 100 yards with it.

I have considered a magnifier, but my carry handle upper with a ARMS mount will not allow it.

Just to give some more info....the way the guy talks is he is willing to trade a used one...some chips on hood has purple dot with circle around it...and 200 cash for a m1 carbine...the gun was for sale for 450 one guy backed out cuz rent was more important( i disagreed lol)and i only paid 300 for the gun so in my eyes im paying 100 for the sight

purple dot
EOTechs have never had a purple dot.

The dot & circle reticule are Red Laser generated holograms.

If it's purple, I'd pass.

It's either gone south, or it's a counterfeit copy.

I have an Eotech on my 458 SOCOM. I'd consider it good at 50 yards, usable at 100 yards and would consider 200 yards stretching things a bit.
