One of the contacts on my 2006-vintage EOTECH 512 turned dark-colored.

NO, I didn't let batteries corrode in it.
This is a condition that just developed over time.

The sight soon started "cutting off on recoil."

I contacted the folks at EOTECH.
At no charge, they immediately sent me a little kit that replaces the contacts, contact springs, and the rubber "bumper" that secures the contacts.

The repair took about 5 minutes.

Sight turns on-and-off just fine after my repair.
Have not range-tested it yet though.

I'm curious as to whether others have done this repair, and what success (or lack thereof) they may have had with the reliability of the repaired sight.

I am already aware of the youtube video where the guy does the repair on camera, and mentions in his comments that the problem persisted.
I'll post the link here now, because I know somebody will do it if I don't.
I'm not "that guy."

I have 2 Eotechs. One had to go back to the factory as out of the box it wouldn't illuminate brightly enough to see the dot on a sunny day. That cost me close to $80 in repair costs plus shipping one way to get fixed. It wasn't covered under warranty as I bought it a few years prior and had not got around to trying it. When I did I discovered this manufacturing defect.

The second one I changed batteries in a few weeks ago and one of the rubber bumpers that bears against the end of the battery, which sits down inside the removable battery box, fell out in my hand when the batteries came out.

Additionally I found the reliability of the impact change from changing the windage and elevation screws to be a bit questionable as well.

I no longer consider EOtech as any kind of serious gunsight, and have no plans to buy another.

I have switched to Aimpoint M4S and T-1 red dots. So far so good.

Am I the only one on this forum who has actually done one of these repairs?

I mounted the repaired sight on my FAL, and put about 50 rounds through it this weekend. No problems at all. The sight turned on normally, and STAYED ON during the entire range trip.

I've done lots of them. We have a couple of hundred of them and they are used harshly.

L3 has been very good about repairs and sending out parts when needed.

The rubber rings and springs in the front of the battery compartment are a known issue, mainly falling out during battery changes. Their unitized dogbone replacement is very good.
