I bought a 36 caliber Euroarms Kentuckian percussion rifle today. The barrel was proofed in 1974. Barrel is stamped Jaeger made in Brescia, Italy. The gun seems to have been cared for, though it was dried out, as if it spent a long time in the closet.
Anyone else have one?

I have one in .45 caliber. was a great shooting gun, The drum on mine was getting loose when I retired it. That was after many years of service. Have a Green Mountain barrel to replace the original. Just have not gotten to it yet.

Fire-Steel, If you remember: Is the drum threaded with left hand threads?

The gun appears to be loaded. I wanted to remove the drum to see what type of powder, if there is powder, before i attempted to shoot it out. I need to find a cleaning rod for this rifle also.

I now know why I got the such a good deal on the rifle. I had thought the gun was loaded and removed the drum to check the powder type. The gun had been dry balled. When I tried to pull the ball I noticed a sponginess, and could not get the puller to bore in. I removed the breech plug and drove everything out of the breech. My extras included a ball, a brush, a wad of powder and oil, a ball, and a patch retriever.
The good news is my free patch retriever is going to be salvageable. I also now have a good slug to determine bore diameter. Now since I have it broke down I am going to refinish the stock and brown the barrel.

Also the drum was threaded with left hand threads. I asked on a tinkers forum and no one had ever heard of left hand threads being used in a muzzle loader.
