Multiple times. My collection is a lot smaller than it used to be; over the years, I've sold the Remington Nylon 66 and Ruger Standard Model that I learned to shoot on, my first centerfire handgun (Bersa .380) and rifle (Ruger mini-14), an NAA mini-revolver, a beautiful Polish M44, and one of my favorite guns of all time, a Romanian SAR-1 with a Kobra, to help pay for my son's medical care and put/keep a roof over our heads and gas in the car. I've been able to hang onto my AR but sold the Eotech last week...will hopefully replace it in the coming year with a Primary Arms 1-6x illuminated variable, but will see.

Just a follow up to the wedding money...

Yes the bride's side is expected to pay for the wedding and reception. Groom's side for rehearsal dinner. Fair? No. I told my daughter I'm giving you $20k...if you want to elope and go buy a car...ok with me. Or go on a kick ass honeymoon. I also believe that the money spent is obscene. But, that's what you do for your baby girl ( if you can)!

Yep, happened to me this spring. cascade failure series for me had 2 grand saved for a toy - then got $5k worth of bills in a 2 week span. sucked.

Sir, That would have really bothered me, been there when I was fairly well off as a younger man. It is interesting as we age, to see that it's more the little things that matter, especially when you lose a lot. But a man needs a couple of things that he really enjoys, "be it a Bike or a classic car", or a fine watch or handgun.
I don't think I will ever get free enough to say I don't need those things, even though I remember being in surgery once and saying if I get through this, I am going to change the way I think.
Now not having most of what I had, doesn't really bother me as long I have what I need, in my estimation. But I still need a few things to enjoy. I don't think I will ever be that non materialistic as to say I don't really need anything, it is a higher form of mental consciousness that I am unable to achieve.
Guns are unique, they protect us and our family's, they have changed the course of history many times, as well as the amazing amount of recreational outlets, and put food on the table, and teach us responsibility we can hand down to the next generation, not many other things I can think of will do that and look as good standing still, they are functional Art, in the truest sense.
I always wonder about those who would strip us of our right to have them, but that is another discussion.

Fortunatly no, but that's a good thing because right now I've bough several guns and sort of... maxed out the fund if you know what I mean!

Happened to me today actually. Coming home from work, stopped at the local 7-11. Smelled a familiar smell but couldn't quite place it. Figured it was another car or something. Sitting at the light down the block from home when the battery indicator light popped up on my dash. Had an "Ahhh now I remember that smell, burning alternator"

So, going to be about $100 for the alternator, another $300-$400 for labor. Yeah, I know, alternator job is no big whoop but on my car the lovely designers figured it would be a good idea to put a support bolt behind the power steering pump and near the axle.

In order to take that one stupid bolt out you need to take out the Axle, power steering pump and undo an engine mount. Which is going to be made extra interesting due to a hole I discovered in the engine cradle a few days ago while changing the oil pan gasket. Was supposed to bring it to the dealer this week to have them fix that due to a recall actually. Add to that and I noticed the exhaust metal getting rather thin near the manifold so I have a feeling that's not going to take kindly to being jostled around. That part of the pipe goes I need a new catalytic converter as well so another $450 or so for that part...

So between that and the Property tax bill due the end of next month it stripped out my cash on hand that I was saving on hand to buy an M1a or maybe one of the CMP Garands in .308

But, that's life, it sucks, so I'm just gonna roll with it an go for a ride on my Motorcycle instead lol.

Heck no! I'm an independently wealthy dot-com billionaire. Financial problems are for the rest of you chumps to deal with, not ME! Lol.

Okay, back to reality… Yeah, I've had to push back purchases on a number of occasions because "something came up":

1) Planning to buy a new shotgun, injection pump failed on my diesel truck.

2) Planning to buy a new pistol, transmission goes out on the car.

3) Planning to buy another precision rifle, furnace goes out in the house.

I think these things are called "life". I'm just happy I've not yet needed to sell any of the guns I have to cover these items. But, somewhere out there on a distant store shelf is a lonely gun that almost got its "forever home" with me. Hopefully someone will adopt it soon :)
