You know those China Cheapie pellet rifles you see at tool shows for twenty bucks? I got the tip of my right thumb caught in the breech of one of those. When you consider that it probably takes 25 pounds on a two foot compound lever to cock one, I'm surprised it didn't bite the end of my thumb clean off. Tore through the nail, and mashed up the underside of my thumb real good, too. I had six stitches, with three of them holding my nail together. I'm all healed up now, but that damn pellet rifle now gets loaded with tweezers (This was my own fault, by the way. I was trying to load it without cocking it, so I could just stroke the lever and go. For a $20 POS, I should have just cocked it and safed it, springs and seals be damned.)
 
Saw my son get M1 Garand thumb, got a fat lip from my Garand when shooting it, Thought it was a AR an had my eye too close to the peep sight an knuckle of thumb
to close to my lip..ha...never heard of M1 lip until then. Also saw my best friend unable
to push the ball down his muzzle loader an used a steel rod an hammer to drive it home.......BOOOOOOM...the gun blew into pieces, knocked him on his butt just holding
the broken butt of the gun, an had a totally black face except for his eyes, thankfully he had glasses on...an after he was ok it was time to laugh...alot...amazing thing is the bullet came out an hit bullseye....it was his best shot...an last with that muzzleloader.
 
I've been bit by the 22/45 bolt too. The back lip of the bolt grabbed the flesh between thumb and forefinger. Not a big deal, but it bruised my ego more than my hand
 
I was ejecting shells on my o/u at a sporting clays shoot & had my left hand under the receiver. When the barrels swung down they bit a nice chunk out of the web between the thumb & index finger. That was the end of the round & a painful lesson for me.
 
1917 Enfield .30-06. Kicks like a SOB. Worst...stock design...ever.

If you shoot a flintlock, you will get cut by the flint. :)
 
Had a round stick in a M11/9 and in the process of yanking hard on the bolt handle, it came free. In the process, following laws of motion, my hand flew backward, neatly slicing the knuckle off my thumb using the rear sight. My forefinger was still on the charging handle when it flew home, dragging my hand forward with it and spraying blood all over my cool fake suppressor. Hurt.

Learned the hard way that putting fingers forward of the cylinder isn't a good idea.

Oh yeah, and how about forgetting that you left the bolt open on your ar15 and yank back on the charging handle. Pinched skin in the latch and skinned knuckles from the edge of the stock.

The wife took the recoil of a pistol grip 12 gauge to the mouth. She insisted on shooting it like a long barreled pistol after my repeated objections it was too close to her face. Split her lip a little, we both laughed though.

I, too, was trapped briefly by the SKS finger trap.

Managed to drop a single 9mm round (FMJ, conical nose) point down onto my big toe's nail. Light-headed, vision obscuring pain, that was. I can only imagine what a real shot to the foot would feel like. :what:

Ive also clicked the bolt release with my thumb inside the chamber. That wasnt bright.

Opening day of duck season I closed a mossberg 500 bolt on my finger and the extractor hit bone. Ironically it was the only blood drawn that day...
 
The garand post above reminded me about the time in basic training when we were being taught how to drop forward to the prone using the buttstock to break the fall. Somehow I managed to bang my chin on the cheek of the stock about 4 stiches worth.

Slide or hammer bite? Sure. Anything truely major? Nope, but ...

When young and foolish I started to disassemble an SKS with the bolt back. The spring drove up into my face and hit me in the lower lip. After asking my buddies if my lower teeth were intact I found that the inside of my lower lip had a very symmetric "stencil" of pulped tissue. Eyes watering and beginning to get sick to my stomach from the shock and taste of blood I made it to the kitchen sink and the guys kept handing ice water to rinse my mouth with until I was steady again. Never made that type of mistake again.

I have helped a couple of folks out that had some part of their hand caught in the action of a firearm.

One was when a Garand tried to eat the thumb of someone that didnt' get their digit out of the way fast enough. Grab weapon, pull back charging "handle", release shocked gunowner. We all had a good laugh as we were icing the hand after we determined no bones were broken

Second was a 1911 that the web between thumb and finger got caught when the slide was racked. Grab weapon, pull back slide, release shocked gunowner. This was in a gun shop and I was just turning away from the pistol case when I heard the meaty "chunk" of the slide trying to drive home and the guy jerk stiff and gasp. I was just two quick steps away and released him as he was starting to react. He gasped, "Thanks! Looks like you've had to do that before."

Scope bit a few times. Garand thumb many times. Pinched fingers on slides all the time.

The worst...

Staple gun through the thumb putting targets up at the range.
 
Well, while I have got injured, most of them were more of an annoyance or simply made me feel stupid, rather than causing pain.

Shot a Mini 14 in a Muzzlite Bullpup stock. I'm left handed with long arms, so I only did that once. Stupid and painful.

Didnt tuck my shotgun in good once or twice. Also stupid and painful...

Shot a BHP with the high-thumb grip. The notch in the slide for the safety took a nice chunk out of my thumb.

My Para had sharp serrations on the slide when I got it. Not really a big deal for a box of ammo. By the end of the third box I was bleeding. I smoothed them down a little, beveled the bottom of them, and when I blasted it I spent a little more time on that area.

Hit in the forehead with a recoil spring plug while reassembling one of my 1911s. I did have it pointed away from me, but when it went flying, I, of course, looked to see where it was going. It ricocheted off the wall. I probably couldnt do that again if I tried.

On that note, I was replacing the recoil spring on my 4" kimber and busted a window. I was trying to push the spring plug down far enough to get the $5 paperclip in, and it slipped. I swapped in a short guide rod.

Got "bit" slamming a mag into one of my 1911s.
 
Yeah and it was entirely my fault. I was shooting a buddies .30-06 for the first time. I had the goggles on and put them right up to the scope and... well I'm sure you can imagine what happened when I fired the gun and recoil took its natural course :p
 
use a belly band holster for poopoos and giggles every now and then.

So, being responsible, I tried to see if I could activate the trigger while the gun was in the belly band.

The hammer tore a nice piece of my stomach skin out

HMMMph. Happens every few years, to me. I have a permanent knot of scar tissue in my right eyebrow. Heck, it happened to R. Lee Ermey right on TV--he made a comment about the blood, and kept on shootin'.

Only other owie I can recall was the first and only time I ever fired a .454 Casull revolver--The owner warned me that it kicks; I held it hard over a sandbag, and it STILL came back and hit me on top of the head. My hat and the bow from my earmuffs took most of the damage.
 
Had some spent powder eject in my eye from a 10/22, shooting into a stiff wind. Trip to the ER to clean my eye out!
 
Hot M60 7.62 brass down the back of my field jacket,everyone around me thought that i had been taken over by the holy spirit.
While in Honduras i watched a Captain practicing his quick draw with his .45 to impress the local ladies.My last words were "I don't think that's very safe Capt" Luckily no major arteries or bones were struck,just a furrow down the side of his right leg,and a hole in the bottom of his boot.After that he got the nick name lefty,and we gave him a stick to carry.
 
One time, I wanted to de-cock my 1911. So I decided to put my finger between the hammer and back of the slide.... Surely the spring in there couldn't be that strong....

WHAMO! 2 perfect little slices into my finger, and a blackened fingernail.
 
Split the web of my right hand open after firing my .45/70 Gov't. ADC Derringer. In addition to the split there was a nice puncture in the meaty-bit between thumb & forefinger when the derringer rolled back during recoil & embedding the hammer spur in my hand. Only shot that gun whilst wearing leather gloves after that!!
 
Once I was firing a 16 GA Bolt action shotgun while dove hunting. Failed to shoulder properly and was left with a nice bruise and a desire to never fire that gun again
 
Got "Garand Thumb" at a high power match trying to load the last 2 round in an en block. Also got hammer bite from a Llama III-a .380 (miniature 1911). Gotta make an extended beaver-tail for that little b@stard.
