Ever purchased a firearm at a yard sale?

More than 20 years ago I bought a Mossberg bolt action 410 shotgun at a yards sale for around $30. A few years ago I bought a Remington 870 Wingmaster at an estate sale for $375. I may have paid more than I should have for the Remington but I knew the guy who had passed and every person with his background that I have met took better than excellent care of their guns. I was not disappointed with the Remington, it was and still is emaculate.

I haven't seen any guns at garage sales, but I had a friend who bought a single shot break action 20 gauge at a yard sale. I don't know how much it was purchased for.

I don't go to many yard sales but my parent's set up at a flea market every weekend and my dad tells me there are guns passing through there all the time.

Yep I got a Savage model 24 in .22 MAG/.410 for 20 dollars a few years ago from a guys EX wife at a yard sale and she said she was going to rub it in his face for how little she sold it for next time in court. I got a deal but did feel sorry for the poor guy after I listened to her as she talked to others about him for a short while.

I have never even seen a gun at a yard sale. Now my Father in law sold one at a yard sale he had.

Most of the yard sales I see now a days the folks seem to think thier stuff is made of gold. Most of the buyers want to pay pennies for anything of real value. So I don't see a lot of deals at them. But I still stop and look around cause you never know.

Now the local Goodwill store I have found some decent deals at. Bought a base Clarinet for my daughter for $60. Shirts for $2.00ea and so on. Never any gun stuff but some camping gear.

Only ran into one. A High Standard M-103 sharpshooter for 200 bucks with original box and paperwork. Gun was LNIB. The woman's late husband had bought it new 30+ years ago.
I guess you know where it is now.....:D

I go to convenient garage sales for a variety of deals, but never expect to see guns. I've seen only 1 way-overpriced gun at a sale. I do ask, but am always told no guns.

Sometimes I've found gun related stuff.

I have found some great non-gun deals. $10 for a brand new 8' casket sized American Flag!!! Hanging on my wall right now.

Sadly, no guns...

yup, a Springfield .22 auto, for 50 bucks.Stock needed refinishing but otherwise in excellant shape.Had a gunsmith drill and tap it for a scope, its my favorite squirrel rifle. biker

About three decades ago.......I picked up a Winchester 22 Low Wall 22 WCF at a garage sale. (for $10 bucks) The 22WCF was a fore-runner to the 22 hornet cartrige. May be the best gun purchase value I ever made. :)

I've found a few good deals. My wife likes to do yard sales, and I tag along to drag away the big stuff. I tend to watch for estate type sales where there's a lot of men's clothing, fishing gear, and things like that. I ask if there are any guns or reloading stuff for sale, and sometimes I see a light go on and they haul out a press, cans of powder, or sometimes a very nice gun that grampa had and the kids don't want.

I didn't know that ammo was still available for that.

I've never seen a gun at a yard sale, but I've never asked, and don't really go out of my way for them.

In a rural community not too far from where I live, a friend of mine got a Winchester 94 and some other shotgun damn cheap at one, though.

I have seen guns at flea markets. Prices vary wildly. Very rarely its a steal, sometimes prices are fair, sometimes prices are high, and sometimes the guy wants $300 for his WWI Australian Nazi Mosin Nagant that's been spray painted black.

While not a garage sale, my neighbor knows that I'm a shooter and asked if I wanted any of his deceased father's old guns. His dad was a Army vet and retired cop. He brought out a collapsing-stocked M-1 Carbine (supposedly carried by his father in the Army while in Lebanon in the late '50s) and asked if $100 was too much. I ran home to get my wallet! Nice Inland. I missed out on the Colt OP .38 and the 1911.

A couple years ago, I saw a Rem 870 with slug barrel and red dot being sold for $650. Yeah, I passed on that.

A couple months ago, a guy near me has pretty regular yard sales. He's one of those guys who goes to swap meets and storage unit auctions. He had two Arisaka rifles, a type 38 and a type 99, both bubba'd beyond redeption. He had a box of Norma ammo for each, selling them for $100 a piece. Both had intact mums. I wish I had $200 that day. Already having a Type 38 I've never shot, it would be nice to have a shootable one and some ammo to go with it.

I happened across a moving sale last year, TONS of rifles and shotguns, all reasonably priced. The older gentleman was moving to Florida and needed moving funds.

Of all the times to be flat broke...

I found four 50 cal ammo cans at a garage sale. They were full of 7.62 Nato. Loose packed and full, Ten bucks each. Yes, I bought all four. Three were full of 147 grain ball and one was a mix of black tip and tracer.

DM~ that is a fine looking SxS. What make and model is it? It would make nice family hierloom to pass down to your kid(s) one day.

It's a Remington model 1900, made in 1905.

Dad shot quite a few deer with it, also a pile of ducks and pheasants. All of us kids grew up hunting with it.

I do still shoot it from time to time, and still hit well with it. Of course, i've been shooting it since i was a kid too... lol
