Yeah, they even have a term for it now. Why this obsession with finding a term for everything??? Is this just an American phemonina? It's called survival panic. But as some point out "survival panic" is just an excuse to commit crime.

Christmastime has always been a time of higher crime rates, usually robberies and suicides.

Technically, yes. IIRC, it stems from English common law, where if a subject was to kill himself, it would be one less taxpayer/laborer/conscript for the king.


Sorry for the brief aside. I agree, the failing economy is probably a (not "the") major cause of increased crime.
