So share your thoughts on the Duostock with us. Are you looking at the Magpul M93B because you are unhappy with the Duostock or because you just wanted to check out some new gear?

executive summary: i really like the ergonomics of the duostock. but the constuction sucks and it still suffers from all the weak points of the std collapsable stock.

first, the ergonomics are great. it fits perfectly in the pocket of my shoulder when extended to the second position. it is the most comfortable stock i have every used. i wish i could modify all my stocks like this. it is extremely fast to mount and once it is mounted, there is a lot of checkered butt plate surface area to grip the shoulder.

the only criticism of the ergonomics is that it is that the butt is a little wide. i would shave maybe 1/4 inch from it. other than that, the angle is perfect.

now, the downsides: the fit was very poor. when i called to order, i specifically asked when kind of stock tube to buy. the person at duostock said the universal model should fit any std collapsable stock tube (other that colt), but duostock molds are build on bushmaster stock tubes. so, i bought a bushmaster stock tube. however, when i tried to install it, the fit was extremely tight. so tight in fact, i could not even force the stock down to the first position. installation instructions did have a solution to this problem. duostock suggest sanding down the interior of the duostock. well i did. and, after a bunch of trial and error fittings, i finally got the stock to work well. now, it is fairly easy to move the stock btwn the different stock positions. but really, any new part that requires you to sand it down to work properly is not the best designed piece of equipment. this aspect really did not impress me.

in addition, the stock also suffers from the usu collapsable stock problems. the duostock is not that solid. there is a lot of rattle. while this does not affect the actual used of the rifle, i would like this stock to improve on the original design some more.

the rigidity of the stock also affect malfunction drills. when you get a stuck bolt malfunction in an ar, the proper procedure to clear it is to bang the gun down on the ground butt down while forcing the bolt down. collapsable stocks do not hold up to this treatment. they either break or collapse all the way, possibly injuring fingers.

cheek weld is another problem that was not solved. while i don't seem to have a problem w/ it b/c of my body shape. i can see some people having their cheek fall right inbtwn the stock and the buffer tube. moustaches beware.

the reason why i want to go to the next gen magpul is tha it solves all these problems. plus it has preset stock positions so you don't have to fumble w/ the stock to find 'your' personal position. oh, plus, it's supposed to be the best and it looks really cool.

so in conclusion, the duostock is not perfect, but it is definatly worth checking out, esp if you are on a budget.

oh and check out the duostock web site: http://www.duostock.com/
it's sooooo cheesy!

here a close-up of the duostock

Just curious... one thing that strikes me about the Magpul is that with its separate tail-piece for modular stocks, you could actually add a Duostock-like section to the Magpul stock and have everything all in one package.

Bartholomew Roberts,

i was thinking the same thing. maybe i should introduce magpul to duostock. that will be my next venture.

AAAAAHAHAHAHAHa

with that music...I keep expecting charlie sheen to pop up with his non military hair do, Geico telephone operator headset, and Navy issued mall ninja uniform.

I need to save this music and pretend to clear my apartment:rolleyes:

I like it. A lot. The panels added to the top rail are an especially nice touch.

I don't really know anything about the Magpul stocks, but has the one you wanted not come out yet, or did you try it and like the Duostock better?

Either way, sharp looking rifle.

SpookyPistolero,

the magpul 93B stock has not yet come out. rich over at magpul hopes they will be out sometime next month. i've tried a 93A2 and i like it more then the duostock because it is more compact and MUCH more solid. i haven't gotten a 93A2 b/c magpul keeps saying they will come out with the next one soon. that being said, i don't think i will be replacing the duostock b/c i still like it and the new magpul will be going on my new build

Bufford t. Justice,

i actually started having some problems w/ the stag arms lower after 3000 rnds. i started getting failures to lock back on an empty mag. after 6 months of changing every part in the gun, the process of elimination dictated that there was a problem w/ the lower. so, i sent it back to stag arms. the checked it out and said that even though the lower was up to spec the bolt catch area was on the very low end of being "in spec". they said they fixed it and were going to send it back to me, but i told them that i no longer had confidence in that particular lower and i asked them if they could replace it. they said, "sure" and they are in the process of building me a new one. they are going to take a new lower from their next production run and put my serial number on it. the whole process has taken about a month. this is pretty good service in my book. i think that should count for something. i will do business with the company again.

Finally, it's done!

i've finally finished my AR-15. it's gonna be my HD gun and back-up 3gun rifle.

things i've added since last post:

Larue Battle Light (9volt)
Laser Devices LAS/TAC laser w/ pressure switch
Magpul Range plate (coyote brown)
added 3M non-slip tape to the Magpul MIAD grip
GG&G Frong Sling Thing

Woot! Looks like you've got some serious hardware on there now. How does it balance and shoot? Sure looks spiffy. :)

jobu07,

as one would think, it's pretty nose heavy. total weigth is 8 lbs. 15.5 oz. (w/ empty 30 mag). as it is a HD gun, its not meant to be carried around a lot. but, i would like to balance it better. i'm thinking of adding a heavier stock to move the center of gravity. either a sully stock or an ace M4 socom. right now it balances around the ring btwn the fore end rail and the upper receiver.

ok, so maybe it's not finished. but, where the fun would that be?

Nothing quite like a 9# M4, is there. Not knocking you as it's what floats your boat and I think you did a good job. Thing I cannot figure out is that I show up to our carbine matches and guys have all this gear on their gun and they still can't shoot it or even work the controls for heaven's sake. Maybe they should ditch some of the gear and buy some ammo and get trigger time. Hell, I made it a point to strip stuff off my M4 to make it lighter.

Just MO.
Greg

Commissar Gribb,
no bayonet lug. just the meat grinder end of the phantom flash hider. and yea, the stock is butt ugly, but it works.

TarpleyG,
if you notice, all the "gear" on the gun is attahced w/ detachable mounts. this allows me to mount the right gear for specific circumstances. as in the picture, it's set up for night time home defense, therefore the laser and light are hooked up. usu. i also add a single point sling. i'd also use the set up for night shooting in carbine classes. for daylight contact distance 3gun matches, i'd take off the light and laser. for long range 3gun matches, i just got an aimpoint magnifier.

for me, the gear is the fun part.
