Just returned from a prairie dog shoot this weekend. The primary firearm for both of us was 17HMR, both bolt guns. His a Marlin and mine an Anschutz. Hard to say which is more accurate. At the range my Annie is better, but in the field his shooting beats mine, mostly because he is a competition rifle shooter and very good at it. We whacked 260 dogs, probably 225 of them with the 17HMR. We were totally impressed by the performance of them. We were scoring hits out to 150 yds on very small juvenile dogs. The rancher was happy and so were we. Our success happened in spite of ever-changing wind from dead calm to 15-20mph gusts. We just had to pay attention to the wind and adjust our shots accordingly. No small task.
