So today I finally got out to my workshop and made up a batch of ammo with the Precision 230gr RNFs. (and to be clear because of stuff I've seen elsewhere. Precision Bullets, the cast/coated bullet Co. out of Kemp Tx, not to be confused with Precision Delta a jacketed bullet Co. in MS.)

so far, at the bench at least, I like them just a tiny bit more than the Blue Bullets 230's. i.e. I didn't develop "Smurf Hands".
so if this batch doesn't perform poorly when I get to the range this weekend, I'll be looking to buy 500-1K more, and while they are a few dollars less than the BBs, I'm a cheap SOB who is always looking for a way to save a little bit more on the things that work. So in addition to the experiences of others I'm looking for any coupon codes, where to find, etc anyone might have that are shareable.

thank you for your time and any further info you might have

I tried Precision bullets in 9mm, and although they shot well I experienced more smoke than with Hi-Tek coated bullets. I also found with a little volume you can buy Hi-Tek from Acme for less. There are many 10% off Acme coupon codes that can be googled. Both Precision and Acme are a quality product.

PM sent,
will also add to what I said in the PM, that i'm further gun-shy of Acme after a number of the local USPSA and IDPA guys placed decent sized orders (3K+ of each of the calibers used by one guy). and found for lack of a better word "Partial bullets" ie fragments and what were obviously bad pours/voids, in the batch(es), and we're not talking one or two.
Now that was 3 years ago now, but I still am not seeing/hearing any praise about Acme bullets at my local matches. Blue bullets, Precision, Ibjiheads(sp?), who ever is doing the slime green coating (Bayou?), and a few guys who cast their own and use Hi-Tek coatings in that, but Acme isn't represented that I've seen.

I started using Acme bullets in January, 2016. I've loaded over 21,000 rounds and don't recall ever seeing a "partial bullet". Lately, I've only been buying Acme and Bayou Hi-Tek bullets, and would recommend both brands.

Like I said the incident(s) in question were all at about the same time 3 years ago (ie April to June of 2015), that was about the same time that, among the guys I was shooting with, the last few hold outs still loading Berry's, Rainer, Xtreme, or some other plated type, were converting to coated lead. Most went with Blue Bullets or Bayou, but use of Acme slowed to a trickle locally after the aforementioned incidents of "what the #$%# is this".

they may have got it shorted shortly after, I have no idea.

regardless, even with the 10% discount code the price from Acme is less than a deal really. comparing Acme to Blue Bullets 500 count 230gr RN, Acme with a 10% code, Blues with a 5% code and having to pay $8 in NC sales tax, there is less than $2 difference! to be specific delivered to my door Acme= $60.20 BB= $62.07 and Blue bullets are semi-local to me (ie same state, less than a 2 hour drive if I ever got a hair and decided to arrange to get a truck load factory direct.)

Really started this because I decided to Try the Precision bullets and if they turn out to work for me I'll want to look into finding a discount code to make it more worth my while to not "buy local"

If you have cast Precision’s they are quite old now. David started swaging his bullets somewhere around 2005 IIRC.

Easy to tell because his cast bullets had a lube groove and his swaged ones don’t.

The swaged ones also have a small flat spot on the center of the nose. You should take this into account when setting your OAL or you could have issues with the ogive hitting the rifling.

His swaged and coated bullet is on the right.

I shot many thousands of both and won a lot of matches with both. I also tried a few different times to get the secret coating from him over the years to no avail.

Then Donnie (Bayou bullets) began selling the coating he uses, Hi-Tek, and I started coating my own (left above).

That data in the photo is for the swaged Precision’s. I started coating my own in 2013 so it’s been awhile since I shot the Precision bullets but the last time I did shoot them they got the job done.

I do not believe them to exist. Acme's price on 500 isn't great, but by the time you get to 1,500 they are.

Another thing to consider is you can get 500 real FMJs from RMR for $61.75. By that standard all the coated options discussed are less than a deal (except jmorris' hand made).

thanks for that lead :)
just wish there wasn't a 25-30% premium on the MHI stamped ones... I had forgotten that RMR was the place marketing those, sometime soon I will have to buy a batch just to have.

I don't think those are the same bullet. The ones I linked are flat-base and the MHI-stamped ones are concave. In any event RMR and Everglades Ammo often offer jacketed bullets that compete with the available coated and plated options effectively. I only buy plated when I get a terrific deal (like as cheap or cheaper than coated). If it comes to paying the full market price RMR and Everglades have terrific jacketed options for the popular calibers.

My apologies, I wasn't entirely clear in the previous post.
I appreciate the lead on the FMJs that you linked to. that is a great price and will cause some further deliberation, since I haven't loaded an actual jacketed pistol bullet in close to 20 years (I've used plated, traditional cast, and coated since I setup my own press in 2001)
In addition, I had forgotten which bullet retailer was selling the Correia "Sanctioned" MHI bullets, and was happy to find that RMR is in fact that company, especially since I want to be sure to get some before they disappear in case Larry doesn't authorize another run. But wish that the price on the MHI stamped ones wasn't as marked up as it is compared to the other 230gr FMJs. But I understand that RMR doesn't/didn't actually make those (they did not yet have .45 caliber tooling, and outsourced them), so they don't have as much control over price point, and I'm overall cool with that.

and I am right there with you on preferring good coated to plated bullets and only going back to plated if the price is the same or better than coated. last batch of plated I bought was back in January. "ArmorAlly" formerly Monmouth Reloading, sells a 230gr RN plated with a plate that seems a little thicker than Berry's, for a few dollars ($3 on 500, 6 on 2K) less than Blue Bullets. so right now it's a push, whichever of those two has stock and/or tickles the right hair when I need to restock gets the order.

Well, took 'em to the range today.

after I burn through the rest of this batch, I'm going back to Blues.
no tumbling, spitting, etc but "they all actually hit the (USPSA) target" is about all I can say about them accuracy wise. which may or may not have had to do with having to bump the OAL back a bit to get them to pass a chamber check.
