Hey ya'll, I'll be hitting the deer woods this weekend and will be hunting in a spot that will allow real close shots, so I've been thinking about taking my M1 Carbine with me. I've got some PPU soft point on hand and was curious if anyone has any experience with the performance of this particular loading. With it being foreign-made, I'm a bit leery on the bullet construction and am worried that it may blow up on bone. The only decent information I could find on this load was a bare ballistics gel YouTube video. Any personal testimony with this particular bullet would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to point out that I'm not asking if the round is powerful enough to put down a deer, I'm only asking for experience with the bullet's performance.

I've no experience with that particular bullet, but feel PPU makes good ammo. So I'd expect the bullet to be reasonably good too.

But I don't think that 30 Carbine launches a bullet fast enough to blow up on anything.

Haven't used them but know people that do. The SP hunting bullet has good penetration and expansion. Haven't heard anything on hitting bones. It's draw back is it is not very flat shooting at long distances. The SP is a very sharp pointed Spitzer. Don't bugger up the point. Very popular in Europe.

A round nose is going to hit HARD, that being said, what kind of bone? I'd avoid a shoulder but wouldn't sweat a rib, i.e first shot to the behind the shoulder boiler room, with fast #2 to the high shoulder/spine to anchor, or just 1 good one through the cns...... .30 carbine with any bullet does not scream bone crushing penetration, just saying...... I would not hesitate to hunt with one, not my first pick, but I'd also treat a deer with a .30 the same as I'd treat tougher game with a light choice, shoot till they stop moving, kill first and break em down fast.
Fighting the arch nemesis "autocorrect" caused the edit here.

Up close it should be no issue. I looked it up on thanksgiving day because I was planning to use my marlin 62 in 30 carbine. I know you were not asking about ethics or the round in general, but it’s relevant. In the 30 carbine, the round carries a lot more energy down range than expected. Still 600 or better at 100 yards, and at 50 yards more than likely carrying 800. Plenty energy if the shot is placed well. Also plenty energy for that bullet to do it’s magic. Everybody worries about hitting a rib, deer ribs are not a big deal. I have hit ribs with low powered rounds before and it still did it’s job.

Not that particular caliber but I’ve been a fan of Prvi for about a decade or so. Their bullets seem to be as good as anything you’d get in some of the cheaper American loadings.

Fairly cheap and good enough for me. Also their brass is excellent for reloading.

People will say .30 Carbine is too weak for deer, but have no trouble hunting with a .357 revolver or even black powder pistols that have half the energy and are nowhere near as accurate.

Obviously, shot placement trumps all.

I'd keep it to the same distances one would use a 357mag and try and stay away from the shoulder blades.

Should work just fine.

I have used this particular bullet in. 30-06 reduced loads. Was basically mimicking a. 30 carbine velocity with this load per data (never chronograph). Expansion on soft targets and varmints was rather violent. Shooting a crow at 100 yards was like blowing the fluff from a black dandelion. I would avoid any solid bone impact at all cost. Head shot or lungs at close range you should be fine but don't expect an exit.
