I remeber a professor I had in college while getting my major in Legal Studies and of course we touched briefly on Roe v. Wade, but she said something that has stayed with me. "Law changes society and society changes the law."

Now by that I think, there is supposedly 80 millions gun owners in America, out of a population of 300 million. A good question to ask would be, how man of those 300 million Americans are either legal immigrants or citizens that are adults that can own firearms.

Stick with me here. I generally work furiously to convert middle of the road folks and found out that three folks whom I met at my Mediation training class that I took time to teach to shoot when they were up this way have made firearm purchases, well the husband and wife duo went ahead and bought a Taurus .357 Magnum model 66 I think it was when we spoke on the phone. I've got four girls from my law school into being 'gun girls' now, glocks and walthers. And i'm working on two guys who'll be staying in town over winter break, oh and my roomate I took the range bought himself a Springfield 1911 .45.

As I understand, and am possibly mistaken, that 40% of Americans are gun owners, if we can get that number into the mid 50%, I think the debate over gun control would start to turn against the antis. A lot of folks don't seem to care about the plight of others till it involves them. I sure as sure didn't really pay attention till I got my first handgun at 21 and in three short years later I am a possibly rabid RKBA supporter and am planning on getting my NRA membership at the next gunshow in January, if the website allowed a money order or check option I'd do it sooner (if anyone knows how, tell me so I can go ahead and get a year membership).

I understand that most of us enjoy taking a cherry-never-shot-a-gun-newbie to the range and seeing them enjoy it immensely than almost rabidly turn around and want a gun for themselves. It was very unnerving when I took four girls to the range (oh and yes my fiancee was with me) to watch them giggle and squeal in enjoyment then start asking questions about becomming a gun owner.

So after Christams break I'll hopefully add two more compatriots to the fold, next year I hope to bring in ten more by years end.

+1 magnum

Great job man, but i live in one of the more anti-gun areas of the planet, and I have brought 2 people to a gun range, but neither of them seem to be rabid RKBA... yet

I think it would definitely be benificial but we also must educate them on the b.s. the anti's put out their and dispell the myths. What I mean is one of the couples bought a revolver which is great but that does'nt mean they would be against a new AWB. Let's remember we can't all agree here and some would be okay with more restrictive laws if it does'nt affect the part of guns that they are now into. It does'nt mean their minds can't be changed (look at the thread regarding Australian gun laws and the change in natural marksman's views) it just means we must be aware of it when we are exposing the newbies to guns.

Oh I educated them quite a fair bit on how the antis tend to lie, b.s., and mistate statistics, and tend to leave out context. Like more children drown in pools then are killed by guns when their parents buy guns. The husband was actually liking the idea of buy an AR, but he and his wife have an 800k mortgage and have bigger fish to fry. I'm to blame for the revolver, I had them shoot my .22, snubbies, and .44 spcl out of my Blackhawk(the husband did) and I had him rent the ranges (10 bucks for a rental, and you can keep renting different guns for the whole day after the one time fee) S&W 686. Plus I recommended a revolver as a good first purchase for a husband-wife duo and didn't have any fancy buttons to press in case of a need-it-this-second kind of situation. Mentioned how all rifles account for less than 3% of all fire-arm related crimes (including bolt-actions, shotguns, and semis).

Trust me, I'm rather rabid when it comes to taking on antis and quick to be prophlyatic against antis when converting. When more than half the U.S. if gun owner we stand a chance. Plus I'm out here in Florida where folks from anti states come to live, the husband-wife duo were forme New Yorkers now Palm Beachers (I know not the greatest difference), plus the two guys are from Baltimore and Chicago.

Granted when I'm in class I can be found day-trading, watching stocks using Yahoo(has a great up to the minute stock watcher, I usually watch about ten to twelve stocks at a time, can do far more), on thehighroad.org, and gunbroker.com so some folks have to come to know me that. It's opened up dialogue with a few folks and I'll be working on taking them to the range after break when they come back from home.

If I could converst some antis that'd be great but that right now is out of my diplomatic grace, still haven't reined in that calling an idiot an idiot when they start mouthing off. Oh and we got antis in class who during my Torts class the year prior I said "Professor my classmate is a 100% wrong, let me clear the matter and give an informed and intelligent dispensation of facts." I like saying dispensation when I mean inform.

Bless your heart, MagnumDweeb .

May I but touch the hem of your robe?

(Matt 14:36)

Uh Matt 14:36, yeah it's been awhile since I've read that bit over but, the walking on water and everything don't mesh to me. Or is it the fact I'm saying we should all work to convert the antis, somehow means I'm being like 'put your faith in me' kind of bit. I certainly don't purport to walk on water, I like swimming too much.

Sorry to hear your plight 'Heavenly Sword', but maybe there is some way to organize/seek out like minded folks. I know getting a gun license(don't it also include concealed carry) is a real pain in the backside and can take up to nine-months for the whole process but is it still possible. I follow the rule "don't go anywhere you feel you need a gun" which leaves out New York city, don't care what gets said plus general living expenses are insanely high to my perception (know a guy that when he lived in New York and ordered things online, he'd have it shipped to New Jersey at his parent's because it was minimum 7 dollar tax surcharge). I'm assuming you are living in New York city.

Would it maybe possible should finances permit to pursue your license, get a simple 'unscary' low-capacity firearm like maybe one of the surplus 8+1 Sigs going around online for less than $300(have to shop around but AIMsurplus.com, and centerfiresystems are pretty good on pricing). Then again if finances permit, take folks to the range (an Aunt of mine lives in Manhattan and told me once there is a range there, when we were still on speaking terms) and try and turn some folks onto enjoying their constitutional right, inform them of the process and so, might not be easy but the only other option is to bugout for Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, or New Hampshire for better gun laws. Trouble with that is just cause the Pro-Constitutionalists flee don't mean the antis don't too, infecting the rest of the country.

Oh and on the 13th I'm taking two new folks (neighbors on my lake and friends of my roomate, they came over to talk while I was having lunch and are very interested to get guns for themselves). I think the worsening economy is going to help bring on more and more converts.
