Hello to all,

With no place to go 'out in the woods' anywhere near where I live, I've finally found an indoor range that will allow me to take my 8-year-old son to go shooting. Any of you fine 'not geographically challenged' folks know there I can score some good eyes and ears to fit a little guy? My compact headset would probably work if I needed, but I have NO idea where to come up with safety glasses that would fit him.

Thanks!

Many Walmart's sell a junior shooters kit with smaller earplugs and shooting glasses. I picked up a set for my boy for about $10.

Elvex now makes safety glasses that are ANSI compliant for folks as small as 6 years old. To my knowledge they are the only safety glasses manufacturers to do so. Others make small frame safety glasses that will fit a 12 or 13 year old properly, but the folks at Elvex make a size smaller for littler folks.

The biggest challenge will be hearing protection. This is far more important than the safety glasses (heck, if forced to you could use kids' lab goggles). There are foam plugs in smaller sizes that may work well depending upon how small your little guy's hear canal is and how thorough you will be about rolling the foam plugs up and inserting them to the bend in the ear canal. Muffs are a problem also since I'm not aware of anyone making muffs smaller than the one size down from standard sizes.

Do not cut foam plugs in half. If you can get the small foam plugs to fit for him sand them down symmetrically so they roll down symetrically.

Order the extra small Elvex glasses and the small foam plugs for him and hope someone else here can suggest a good set of smaller muffs.

I bought some industrial safety glasses for my almost six year old from Lowes.
When we shoot at the indoor range he uses foam ear plugs and muffs.
