I had a brain storm (fart, if you prefer). Thinking out loud...

Would there be any tactical/practical benefits to wearing a IWB holster or even a shoulder holster with a fake replica gun butt protruding so that those who would notice would think you were carrying even though you were not.

Would it be beneficial to have a fake gun printing your shirt if you were somewhere where concealed carry was not legal?

I'm not saying it would be overtly obvious, but enough that those looking for it may notice it, namely a BG.

Of course a LEO may see it too and it may cause a problem, but I do not believe you'd be breaking any laws.

Just a stupid thought.

I'm no expert, but having a fake gun seems like a good way to invite trouble while being defenseless. And that does not sound too appealing to me...

Sounds like a good way to end up laying face down on the ground with your hands cuffed behind you and watching the blue lights reflect off of the surrounding windows.

In my opinion, the situation you describe would carry with it all of the drawbacks of carrying without any of the benefits.

I think it would be much better to not have a gun, but also not have the indications -- or undue attention, if you will -- thereof.

.......the last line of your post should answer your question.........

Carrying an "imitation firearm" in such a manner is illegal in my state. If it is construed by a reasonable person to be a real firearm, its a 4th degree felony which carries a 5 year sentence.

Seems like a bad idea. I'd think you'd be better off laying low then trying to print to discourage a bad guy.

In reality though, I see where you're coming from though.

You could achieve the same affect by maintaining a good level of physical conditioning and being aware of your environment. Police will not have an issue but the BG will seek opportunity elsewhere.

"My gun says Desert Eagle, point five-oh. Your gun says replica."

Seems like a good way to get shot..............before you(the good guy)has a chance to draw his"gun"...

I wouldn't.

Although during CQS (close quarters socializing) I hang my Oakleys near my gat in case it gets bumped and folks ask me what's that hard thing they just felt.

(don't even go there! :fire: )

Fake printing == dumb idea

But, I have wondered what would happen if I just pulled my gun out of its holster and left it in the truck, while wearing the holster just slightly hanging below shirt or jacket. So then someone cries "He's got a gun!" and they check me out and find an empty holster.

It would sure make some folks look stupid. :p

Fake gun = fake protection = potential real trouble. Aside from potential trouble from bad guys, what about potential trouble from the good guys when somebody calls the cops on you for printing (man with a gun-type call)...and then during the course of the attempted stop, you move in a manner that looks furtive and so the cops shoot you. It has happened in the past with items like wallets, so it could definitely happen with a fake gun.

Maybe you could get a fake CCW badge made up as well?

You could paint your car like a fake police car.

I would go ahead and add trijicon night sights and laser grips to your fake gun, so as to make it look more real.

Many a cop has shot and killed many a kid wielding fake guns.

It doesn’t have to be loaded or even real, all it has to do is put someone in reasonable fear of his or her life and it’s automatically a deadly force situation. Recently the US Supreme Court rules in favor of an Ohio State Trooper who shot and killed a man who jumped out of a car and drew down on him as if to aim and fire a pistol, he was shot numerous times, the dead man was armed with a cell phone.

If you are going to carry it better be real.

Actually, it wouldn't be a fake "gun," only the "butt of a gun" so it will print. The "butt of a gun" would be part of the holster in a way that it could not be easily removed from the fake holster. There would be no way to pull it out and weild it.

I'm still trying to figure out why? Conceal means conceal. Seems to me the bad guy spots you from the rear, thinking he's going to jump you and take your weapon. You wake up a few days later wondering *** just happened.

I wouldn't do it personally. Looks like a good way to either get your butt kicked or killed.

Some thugs don't care if you have a gun or not. When the SHTF and all you have is a fake gun well umm the smart money won't be on you.

If memory serves you can get your CCW in Michigan.

What; like a bar or a school? Or do you want to pretend that you are caryying a gun at a court house?

I have thought about this as I have passed through this post a few times. I figured I should finally say my opinion.

I cant think of ANY good reason to "fake print"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. It takes away your "tactical advantage" for lack of a better term, if people know or think you are carrying.

2. It could just cause heat with police, store patrons, etc...that if you end up facing the heat, you might as well really be armed, not carrying a dummy gun or an empty holster.

3. Carrying often requires a compromise in dress and or comfort....why even bother messing with it if you are not going to carry.

Don't do it, what can possibly come out good if you do this?

Thats it /rant off

One more thing...

I, like many here are trying to find the best concealment setup for our daily routine, comfort, convenience, just what WILL WORK....

...and you are asking for ways to make it not work....

I just don't understand.

Upon detention by Johnny Law: "Aw don't worry ossifer, it's just a(whipping it out) fak-BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM..Reload.., BLAM,BLAM,etc.....
