I got together with my oldest granddaughter and her boyfriend today, her boyfriends first trip to an actual range. To have her fire her the 243 win I bought for her a couple years ago. We arrived and had to wait for a cease fire as 2 other guys were shooting. We set 6 9 in paper plates as targets at 100 yds, figured a decent distance, since my rifles are sighted in at 200 yds. Gave instruction on the firearms, range etiquette read safety rules, and specifically for Phoenix trigger and breath control, sight picture and a few rounds of dry fire prior to letting them shoot live.
Phoenix was unfamiliar with centerfire rifles, but had shot some rimfire and shotguns. So this is new to him. He did quite well with my m11 223 rem, 20 rds in one hole into about an I ch and a 20 round group just under 2 in.
Kahlil, my granddaughter, after 10 rounds got bored with that distance decided to try her hand at the 3, 300 meter gongs, had earlier explained BSc rectical and distance it would hit, and hit all 3. Damn now I'm really impressed. She just hit her first, second and third targets at 300 meters.
Phoenix hit 2 of 3 at same distance, 1 of 2 with my rem 700 7mm08 and 1 for 1 with her m11 savage 243 win. They can only get better..
I actually didn't shoot much as I was rso. Helping with issues like pushing a round into chamber without closing the bolt completely then stripping a new round that stuck half way out of ghe magazine, that happened a few times, or rifle holding the pocket not on Biceps , how to use bunny ear bags properly. Was pretty busy I did get off a few rounds though.
Had one mishap Phoenix, poor guy, got scope eye from Khalifa 243, only thing I can think of is he got too close. The injury wasn't really had and he finished his shot string.
When we got back to my house she was beaming said that 243 was her favorite rifle and took it home along with military type sling Harris swivel bipod. 2 partial boxes of 200 gr reloads 2 trigger locks, and cmp hard side gun case.
The smiles were worth it all.
