Has anyone on this board ever seen a FATS machine that sprayed peppermint oil as an indication of failure?

I found that statement in a textbook entitled Community-Based Corrections in the section about the training Parole Officers recieve.

I have dealt with several FATS machines, and have never seen any such thing. So I asked my instructor, a former SA in Charge of Training (and occasionally procurement) for one of the three-letter agencies. He has purchased hundreds of FATS machines over his career, including many for friendly countries around the world. None have ever sprayed peppermint oil.

before we write a scathing letter to the author for making up facts (trust me, not the first instance in this book), I was just wondering if anyone had any real-life experience with such a FATS?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a FATS machine? Does it have anything to do with firearms? It sounds more like something you buy in a holistic candle store.

FATS= FireArms Training Simulator. Used by alot of LE agencies. Now owned by Meggit Training Systems. http://www.fatsinc.com/main.php?id=23 They do offer a hostile fire system as an add on which allows they operator to use a remote control device to shoot foam (nerf type) projectiles at the person being trained during scenarios. Never heard of spraying liquid at them.

The only one I've ever seen that projects anything is the one that shoots the plastic ball like armoredman mentioned. We used to train on FATS annually, but I never saw or have heard of one that projects peppermint oil.
