I noted that the Colt 1862 Pocket Police revolver was originally manufactured with barrel length variants of 3 ½, 4 ½, 5 ½ and 6 ½ inches. Today, the Uberti manufactured replicas come with barrel lengths of the later three sizes.

Curious to know what your favorite barrel length is for model and why. Also, post your pictures!

I read that Uberti will be bringing back the 3 ½ inch barreled version. I'm going back-n-forth between the 5 ½ and 6 ½ inch barrels. I wonder if 6 ½ inch is a bit too much barrel for this small framed revolver....it sure looks sexy though with the longer barrel.

I've always liked the 6 1/2 because black powder needs barrel length to get good velocities and the .36 is not a powerhouse, but in how small the 1862 is, it's perfection. I don't think one can go wrong with the 6+ inch barrel and I love that 3-1/2 inch barrels are available as it turns the 1862 into a really versatile percussion revolver.

I've been wanting one for a really good while. I'd prefer either the 6.5" or the 5.5".

I always thought the 1862 Pocket Police with either barrel length was probably the sexiest revolver that Colt manufacturing came up with. I've been wanting one for a long time too but got side tracked with other projects and hadn't purchased a BP revolver in 4 years. Recently my brother bought an Uberti 1875 Outlaw 45 Colt nickel finish and it got my juices flowing again with old style revolvers.

I just bought one on GB tonight, so I'll be getting a 6.5" sometime late next week.

I had largely written off the Colt percussion revolvers as the 1851 Pietta I have hasn't grown on me much, but I'm willing to give the Uberti 1862 the chance to impress me. I feel that the lighter weight will help enamor me to the gun and if not, I can always sell it very easily.

If we're talking Colt Model 1862 Pocket revolvers I would go with the Pocket Navy with a 6 1/2" barrel. Just think it looks great with that barrel length and would make for a nicely balanced gun (I feel the same way about the 8" barrel of the Colt Model 1860 Army).

That thread does not help me at all with my desire to own a Colt Pocket Police - I will hold ClemBert personally responsible if I can't resist the urge. At least that's what I'm gonna tell my wife - it's his fault, don't blame me!
P.S. Just keep those pics coming...

Yeah you're going to have let us know how that all works out with your wife!

It has to be the 3 1/2 inch barrel as it doesn't have the loading lever stud on the barrel.

All other barrels have them.

I need to see some 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 inch 1862 Pocket Police revolvers.....because I said so. :p

I’ve been quite interested in this little pistol myself. It’s on my list of needs but isn’t quite at the top. I’ve wondered which way I’d want this little pistol. It seems the 5.5 or 6.5” would be just about ideal as far as shooting but being a light pistol I’ve figured a shorter barrel would be warranted. So the question is do I compromise and get the 4.5” version and call it done or do I get one of the longer barreled models and order the short 3.5” barrel?

I don’t care much at all for the loading design of the 3.5” barrel and see it as pointless to need to remove it for loading as I want something easily loaded in the field. But that short barrel just seems what’s right for a little gun like that.

This one handles and balances perfectly for me...

I've deburred and polished the action, as well as the face of the hammer (prevents most issues with caps getting "stuck") and she cycles great!

Some may say I have the wrong colors in the background though...
