I was out shooting the Marlin M60 22lr today with my nephew and just relized how much fun that we had. We both decided that our fav. rifle and rd has to be the 22lr. We both would like to know what your favorite 22lr would be and what 22lr ammo is your favorite?

We were shooting water filled aluminum cans at 50-maybe 100yds with a little Tasco scope. and we were firing CCI Stingers, CCI Vel Gold Dots, and Federal Gold bulk pack. Wheww! those CCIs are Hot!

Whats your favorites?

This is mine:

Ruger 10/22 Receiver and Bolt
Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor
Volq TG2000 trigger unit
Green Mountain Stainless Fluted Barrel
Bell and Carlson Anschutz style stock
Leupold rings and base
Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X40

Using Winchester Dynapoint, available only at K-Mart, I can get 5 shot groups less than the size of a dime at 50yds.

Looking to add an Anschutz 64 MSR with aperture and globe sights to the collection.

My favorite .22lr. rifle is my nearly stock Ruger 10/22...
It's no where near as fancy as the one that Sactown has pictured above though.
Ammo wise, it will eat just about anything but, my favorite .22lr. round has to be CCI MiniMags..;)

This is a J.C.Higgins (Marlin 81) made for Sears, Roebuck & Co. that I recently acquired along with a Winchester 94 .30-30 that had belonged to my late Father. I finally got these two guns in my late 40's.
The stock has been sanded down very unprofessionally by ME in this photo. It is currently getting bleached and done correctly by one of my workmates who is a master woodworker. I don't know what finish he'll put on it as I told him to surprise me with anything but pink!
It's wearing a Tasco High Country 4-16x40 A/O with Sotney Point target knobs; a B-Square Roto-Tilt bipod, and the military style sling it came with. I finally found a place to put the scope and bipod for fun. Can't wait to get the stock back and post new pictures. This unit shot just fine for the kind of rifle it is, but, most importantly, it was my Dad's.

Here's my fave (on the bottom):

Tand77.JPG

It's a Ruger 77/22 VBZ Laminated Hvy Barrel. Trigger is a Timney, crisp 2lb. BSA Contendor 8-24x44 target scope. Accurate with dang near anything, but will shoot .25" groups with Wolf Match or Eley Club Xtra.

Here's the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 the way I set it up:
Hogue stock; Tasco 1-4.5x20 Pro-Shot reticle scope in Kwik-Site medium rings on a Weaver T-09 base;
Choate bbl. heat sheild filed/notched a bit to fit close to the scope base;
Vortex flash suppressor (because...);
Quake Claw sling.
The Ruger MkII Govt./ Leupold 2x20 scope/ Hogue gripped pistol accompanies it in this photo.

BusMaster007, Nice rifles. Where did you get the target knobs?
I have been looking but cant find any.

ps
swingset, nice rifles.

NICE rifles, swingset! I mean really nice. Almost better lookin' than naked wimmens! ;)

This is my Remington 597 with the same scope setup as the 10/22 except I used low rings. It's pretty good now with the new/redesigned parts from Remington, provided at no cost by their PR folks. New ejector and metal mags. I like it a LOT. It shoots better than the Ruger, too. :D

Thanks, mak...

Those knobs were ordered from Brownells, I think.
They're out there. I put 'em on mostly for fun and looks. Glad I got 'em, though!

Cool, Thanks for the info. Im gonna have to get me a set of those.
I found them at brownells.com, a set of tasco Scope Target Knobs
run $61.75.

The only .22 rifle I have is the same one I've had for the last 29 years--the Winchester 290; I've had it since I was 14. Granted, it will never get any votes for best trigger or best accuracy, but it's fun to plink with and it does a job on rabbits. With a little luck, I'll be passing it on to my son someday.
DAL

P.S. Someday, I'd like to get a nice .22 bolt action--maybe a CZ 452.

My favorite is an old I-J lever-action I found about ten years ago; though it's not the most fired.

Been thinkin' 'bout gettin' somethin' "new", though.
I LOVE lever-actions!:D

Favorate .22?

My old time favorite .22 for the last 40 yrs. is a Marlin 39A. It has a Redfield aperture sight. Still shoots well after all these years.
My more recent favorite is a CZ ZKM 452 Lux. It has a 2x7 Leopold scope and I have taken advantage of the advice and parts available to sweeten up the trigger. I like to use subsonic hollow points from Ely or RWS. With the long barrel, they are nearly silent and shoots around .5†groups at 50 yds and just over an inch at 100 yds.

Tough decision. I actually have 3 favorites.

I love my Winchester Model 52A Target. Mine was made in 1936 and will shoot with any .22 rifle ever produced. The craftsmanship in this rifle really has to be seen to be appreciated. As I've said before, IMO the Winchester 52 is the best production .22 rifle ever made.
I have two sentimental favorites. The first is my Ruger 10/22 Sporter. This was the first firearm I ever purchased and/or owned. The second is my Dad's old single shot Remington Model 41 TargetMaster. Both have places of honor in the safe.
Take Care

I finally narrowed it to three...

Sako Finnfire Hunter, Weaver T-36, Jewell 1.5-ounce trigger.

Remington 541-S, Leupold variable.

And my sentimental favorite - a birthday gift from my uncle in 1963 - Marlin Golden 39-A Mountie.

John

I have the 10/22's and all that-----but the one I just love the feel and function of---is my bone-stock Browning Classic BL-22. (Grade I)

Swamp Yankee,

you're a man of excellent taste. I have a 52 speed lock built in 1929...a superb rifle. Also a 52B from 1948 with butchered stock but still excellent.

BTW, I think there never was a '52A'....they were plain 52 until the 52B came out. There was the more or less original 52, introduced 1919, with springfield-type cocking piece, military trigger, ladder-type sights, finger groove. Then the speedlock introduced 1929. Then the 52B. IMHO finest 22 rifle ever built.

Don't know about excellent taste, Model 52's are pretty easy to like.
As to the 52 A designation, I'm probably wrong, but I thought they were designated as A's after the change to the speedlock action????

My Stock 10/22

Not fancy, but a pure joy to burn 2-300 rounds of federal high velocity through on a pretty day.

Plenty accurate for my purposes (I can hit spent 12ga shells at 30-40 yds with 95+% accuracy, and that's using open sights, and shooting offhand!)

My brother's marlin 60 is nice too, but i prefer the ruger's shortness and lack of weight.

I have 3 I really like and a newly bought one

I hav'nt shot yet! The first is a T/C Carbine with a 16.4 carbine barrel with a carbine kit. the secone is of course the Ruger 10/22 this one is one of the newer model manlicker style guns. I like the way it looks. The third is an older Remington 581 bold gun.
The "new" gun is actually quite old, its a Mossberg model 44 us bolt action target gun. Its very large and heavy and I have yet to spend any time with it.

Ah, the model 60. I think that is the most overlooked 22lr rifles out there. No magazines to loose, 17 round capacity, and fun.

I had one many years ago (first rifle) and traded up to something "better".

I wish I still had that rifle (more sentamental than anything, seeing as they cost about $80.00)
