Heading out to the range soon to try to work up a good accurate loading in the 60-75 gn. FFg range.

Sound off on your favorites. I'll be using a Brazilian Light Minie Rifle that has a Hoyt reline 3 groove, 32" long, 1:60 twist progressive rifled barrel. I have many minie styles to choose from. So far I've only tried Lyman 575-213's (regular not old style) with 65 gns Goex FFG but the groups I've got aren't as good as I think they should be.

Just wondering what your pet ball/loadi gs are in your muskets so I can try them too.

Thanks!

My loads are HUNTING loads for deer & elk.

I have three .58 minie rifles I shoot.

Pedersoli 1861 Springfield
Armi-Sport 1855 Harpers Ferry Rifle
Armi-Sport 1862 Richmond rifle.

The only ball I cast and shoot is a .575 minie from a Lyman mold. Pure soft lead and then lubed with SPG. I shoot 55 grains 2f Goex and they all do just fine shooting paper.

I've read shooting charges more than 60 grains with the traditional or thin skirted minies will blow the skirt and mess up accuracy. I've always loaded my rifles at 60 grains and under because of this. The standard load during the Civil War was between 60-65 grains.

I load an RCBS 505 grain minie with 60 grains of 2f and no lube in my Navy Arms 1863 Springfield. I have gotten one inch groups at 50 yards sand bagged. BTW, a friend and I shot upwards 90 rounds in one day in our rifle-muskets with no lube and maintained accuracy and still loading easily at the end of the day. No leading was observed.
