So far i have been using Gold Dots flawlessly.....I've heard Corbon DPX is the most lethal for the LCP

What have you used?What do you suggest? Thoughts...Thanks
 
Below is my test with 102 gr.Remington golden sabers.
I just got some hornady 90 gr.critical defence loads that I will test next weekend
These new hornady rounds look good they have the little plastic tip on them but have deep notches oround the tip so they look like they will expand very good.
They feed very good in the LCP I have not shot them yet.

Well, I have a Kel Tec (nearly identical to the LCP) and use Golden Saber 102 grain JHPs in it. The Golden Saber rounds have good ballistics in all calibers, expand reliably, and are readily available. Also, the cases are chrome plated, which I think improves reliability in a defense round where corrosion may be a problem.
 
both great rounds.

The golden sabre is a super super round, will give 100% expansion and at 102 grains a nice wallop and they work great in the lcp's.

the dpx is another super super round, the all copper bullet by Barnes willgive 100% expansion(looks like a rose petal) and will retain 100% of its bullet weight, it won't fragment apart.

Some tests have show the golden sagre to give better penetration than the dpx but , as tests go, one has to decide for himself.

Both great rounds, I have um both in my 380 and 9mm.

Penetration and expansion means nothing like some one stated if the round is hung up on the feed ramp. So to me the most important thing for any defesne round is 100% reliability...

You missed the point, shooting ammo at someone is not to be lethal, but to stop an attacker, which you won't do with a .380 period. :banghead:
 
First of all i hope i NEVER ever am forced to fire a gun at anyone,but you are VERY wrong a SINGLE shot with a 380 can for a FACT kill

Do you think half the worlds armed forces equipped their troops with handguns too weak to stop a fight?

The less powerful .32 ACP fought WWII with the Axis forces.

The .380 ACP was considered too powerful for years by much of the postwar European police agencies.

The almost identical ballistically 9mm Makarov armed soviet forces for about 80 years.

A magazine full of 90 or 100 grain JHP bullets stuck in your gizzard is going to leave a mark!

Most likely, a postmortem mark.

have to go with RC's comments. The 380's of today are 10x better than the 380 of 25 years ago, not the guns but the ammo for sure. Do I kwant more than a 380, yes indeed but I trust the 380 will do the job, like all calibers it amounts to properly placed shots...

Why the 32 was used as a defense weapon in the past older wars is beyond me, still IMO doesn't make it a great caliber for defense TODAY... 40 years ago, probably so...
 
I could never get comfortable carrying expanding rounds in a pocket pistol, if they do expand they shallow out.

I decided I needed penetration and a hot round, and I still haven't found anything better than the Spanish Santa Barbara surplus flat nose.

When that runs out I'll go with Buffalo Bore.

If you absolutely have to use a JHP I'd suggest Double Taps hot Gold Dot loading.

All the mainstream JHPs (even the Golden Sabre) are incredibly weak and light loaded even for a .380, you could throw it harder.
 
Hangun rounds under a .50 have no stopping power.

A rifle of decent calliber does.

A .380 today may be improved, but isnt there. Yes they kill, but only after a while.

I'm not saying you should carry one, as I love my p3at. But don't expect to stop anything instantly like in the movies. Your all about shot placement at that point.

Armies or police forces that use a .32 or .380 only have sidearms for ceremony. Most are not even allowed to draw them ever, take Greece and the protests now happening.

Uh boy, another "handgun rounds are worthless" OT thread. When will they learn??

Back on topic: has anyone tried Hornady's new ammo for the .380? It has some kind of rubber ballistic tip, I guess like Cor Bon's Powrball. I have sold a few boxes of it but would like some feedback.
Otherwise I'd recommend fmj for all the reasons people have mentioned.

IT'S A .380. Enjoy it for what it is, but not for what it isn't.
 
I've been thinking about getting one of those. I'd probably use that new Hornady CDA.
 
A former neighbor of mine has been in state prison since 1992 for killing someone with a .22. Maybe a "lucky" shot (punctured the aorta) but he was in an "emotional situation," not being attacked. He wasn't a permit holder and I don't think he had any training.

A .22 may not be the first choice for SD but they can kill.
 
I'm going to be as clear as I can.

KILL IS NOT STOP. Lethality is not the point.

I hate yelling, but there is a difference. You can be dead between the symantics.
