Through experimentation, I've found natures own defensive mechanisms, like the Ostrich skin & quill bumps, are lighter & superior to the Pachmayr wrap-a-rounds for recoil absorption & grip...Also, reptile isn't too far behind....
Altering grips relieves my stress....
I've taken a liking to Carbon Creations also. I've got a set of mat black for my Stinger and my 5" Baer. Even in the mat finish you can see the weaving:
My favorite grips for the 1911 pistol are Esmeralda's in Desert Ironwood and special grade Cocobolo. I use the magwell grips with flat bottom cuts and covered msh pin. Lost all my existing pictures when old computer died. Will try to take some more pictures tomorrow and post them.
Marcus- If I never wanted one before Id want a 1911 just to put those grips on it .
My favorite grips on a non 1911 format are the CZ 75B factory rubber grips; I think CZ should form a seperate grip company and make those for other autos too.
But i love the polimer based "grips" that are on my glock!!!!! LOL!!!!
I know they work perfectly when there is a layer of skin in the polimer checkering on the backstrap!!!:banghead:
For a "hard-use" gun, it's hard to beat any of the G-10 based grips. Gunner Grips from Simonich are my favorite, but Larry Davidson's grips are real nice too.
Thanks Monkeybear. It`s not exactly your typical 1911 either...
You`re right the CZ rubber grips with the palm swells do feel awesome.
Frandy,those are sweet! Marcus
Some of the more exotic grips I've seen come from Wicked Grips. However my taste's (and checkbook) tend to lean toward something a little more sedate. You might want to look at some panels from Kim Ahrends. Currently almost every handgun I own wears grips from Mr. Ahrends.
For show, I do gotta agree with the carbon creations suggested by 10-Ring and Chuck.
For all around hard use, I prefer rubber grip panels such as the ones from Kimber. Honestly, if anyone made magwell cut double diamond rubber grips, I'd run them on all my 1911s.
Again from Kimber, but I love the laminated wood stocks that come on the Eclipse and Tactical.
Hogue rubber grips WITH the finger grooves. Some whiners don't like em, but I am 100% certain they give me a better grip and improve my consistency and accuracy without sacrificing any speed. I have them on all of my 1911s and my CZ75B.
Man, you guys have some beautiful grips! I have found I shoot best in practical shoots with Hogue rubber wrap around finger grove grips. In hot or cold weather I still can get a good grip on my gun. For casual shooting, I would love to pick up some of the beauiful grips shown in previous posts.
