Interested in people's choice for a holster on a 1911 commander (4.25" barrel) and where they carry.

I'm getting the bug again. I don't know what it is, but everytime I get a 1911I find reasons why its not worth it. Then after I get rid of them, I wish I hadn't :banghead: I miss my Colt Commander. :(

My biggest problem is that I felt they were uncomfortable to carry. I would get poked in the butt with the barrel as I carry at 5pm IWB. 5" 1911s are definitely out of the question.

As an example, I occassionally get poked with my Sig 228. But not with my G30. I guess I have a very short torso.

Thanks

I have a Crossbreed Supertuck, and it's by far the best holster for 1911 IWB carry. I have many other holsters for it, but the Supertuck is used 95% of the time. I carry at 3:00 or just slightly forward with an untucked t-shirt and I don't print whatsoever. My wife knows I carry all the time, and she can't even tell it's there most of the time.

Along the same line is the Comp-Tac MTAC holster, which is probably just as good and offers changeable bodies if you want to used it for different guns. That said, I have had both and the Supertuck is still with me and the MTAC is not.

By the way, it's a 5" Rock Island. My barrel tends to ride down to the top of my back pocket. This is why I carry at 3:00 because any further back causes me to sit on the gun like you said.

I use a Galco "quick slide" holster with my Commander. This is an OWB type, and I find it's most comfortable at 4 o'clock. It has just enough forward cant to keep the slide out of your ribs.

Many years ago I tried various IWB styles, but I finally decided that OWB with untucked shirts (or jackets) was more comfortable.

(And I haven't seen any fashion police in the Pacific Northwest, yet... :) )
