I was wondering if anyone in the forum owned a true pocket pistol. By this I mean a firearm that, without need of a holster, can be slipped into a pants or coat pocket, carried without making the user uncomfortable, unobtrusive, and yet ready for action. I myself own several, to include ...a Colt model 1908 hammerless 380 acp made in 1927, a Walther PPK/s 380 acp made in East Germany in 1972, an East German Makarov 9x18 from 1968, and a Davis Derringer circa 1991 in 22 magnum. I have carried all at one time or another without hesitation, as a quick and efficient means of self defense, in both hot summer and cold winter situations where I wanted to just grab and go without need of "strapping on", and being able to access it quickly or even have my hand on it when the hairs on the neck start to bristle. The derringer is the smallest, but only two shot in a sub caliber. The 380's are light, flat ( don't print ), and carry 7 shots. With a nod to the Colt, being that it is hammerless and very thin in profile. Then there's the Makarov in 9x18...8 shots with more punch than the rest. Let's hear from the forum on your favorite "pocket rockets"...

I have a P3AT and have slipped that in pocket now and again but my own pocket rocket is these days the Rohrbaugh R9s .... a 9mm package, very flat and sits well in an Uncle Mike's sidekick pocket holster. Weight without mag' 12.8 ounce - loaded and ready to rock - 17 ounces. Sits very well in cargo pants large pocket but will also manage OK in jeans even - tho harder to get to.

I have a Mak and that now and again can be Ok, as can a Bersa Thunder - tho these two in truth are more fanny pack useage if needed.

I have two-
Seecamp and a Colt 1908 vest pocket hammerless .25acp.

I have an East German Mak also, but I would not consider that a pocket pistol. :scrutiny:

Due to a .380 fetish I once suffered from, I've owned several. Colt pony was a favorite as well as my Grendel P10. My all time favorite was my Keltec P32, but I just couldn't get used to the idea of that small of a round. Now my pocket rocket is a Taurus 650, but it's kinda hard to carry without a holster. Nothing prints like a wheelgun. My mother carried a little Bauer 25 for ages. Surprisingly accurate and reliable.

Does it have to be an auto? Here's mine- S&W 642:

Which pocket

P11 in right hand pocket, 642 left hand pocket--both in Null holsters. :)

I have one, will have two next week... P3AT, and the one that's coming, a Colt Special Lady .38+P revolver.

That way, I can always brag about having my "special lady" with me everywhere... :)

I've gone through a few of them. Glock 27, Taurus 85, Kahr P9 Covert. Even a 45 Firestar. Man, that thing was a brick! Right now it's a stainless Colt Mustang. The Mustang carries quite nice in the pocket. The addition of a pocket holster, which I just purchased used here off a member, makes it really nice. If you are pocket carrying without a holster, you really ought to try one. Makes a world of difference.

My favorite pocket rocket is the Kahr PM9. I also carry a P-32 as a back up. I have an Astra CUB .25 and a Cobray Pocket Pal too, but they never get carried.

If you include Makarov size guns in the list, then I can add a Mak, a Bersa .380, Mauser HSc and Taurus 85UL.

For me it's my Kahr PM9 or Kel Tec P3AT.

I think the Rohrbaugh is the king of pocket rockets at the moment when you consider size, weight, and quality.

In earlier days I always lusted after a Detonics Pocket 9.

Best of Pocket Guns

Once you hold on to a Roghbaugh R-9, the other Pocket Guns, will become (History).

You feel better having a $100.00 dollar bill in your pocket, then a $1.00 dollar bill, even though they can both be spent? (Get the Drift).

Hmm, so far it looks like nobody carries one of the little Berretas. I've been looking hard at one of the little Tomcats, i don't know why, they actually weigh more than my S&W 342, and .32 auto is definately less than 38 spl, but they just seem kinda cool.

My pocket rocket is a KT p-11....Everyday carry is a P3AT...Both in pocket holsters...Not gonna say who made them though :)

Ever handled and shot one? Ugh ... even if it functioned.

I know what you mean. When I was younger I also bought my fair share of itty bitty pocketable pistols that were considered "cool" by other young cops. Of course, trying to use them in most defensive handgun qualification courses quickly disabused me of any illusion that they would be "practical" for my defensive needs, even at close range.

We see a fair number of CCW folks that favor the little Beretta & Beretta-type pistols. Watching them during their CCW qualifications, it always reminds me how much the functional reliability of the little pocket pistols is intrinsically connected to both the quality & consistency of the small caliber ammunition selected, and the fine motor skills of the shooters when using such itty bitty pistols ... especially when they malfunction and the shooter can't easily clear and resolve the problem, often seemingly due to the reduced size of the pistol, the grip considerations when trying to hold a very small pistol so that the shooter's hands don't interfere with the slide's movement, and the manipulation & fine motor skills involved to clear any malfunctions.

Depends on the person doing the shooting, though ...
