Did a quick search, nada. So, that's my question to folks here. What are your favorite powders for use in revolvers? Any caliber/cartridge. Simple curiosity is all. Thanks.

Edit: Changed the wording a bit in 3rd sentence to "powders", as it was a bit misleading to a few. Hope this helps.

I use lots of Unique, Accurate #5, W231/HP38 and 700-X in all sorts of revolvers.

In many cases, I have loads developed with alternate powders so that I can substitute when a powder for a favorite load is not available.

These powders are used in mid-range loads.

For full power loads in magnum cartridges, W296/H110 are my go to powders.

For 9x19, I like True Blue. I know, not a revolver cartridge but I have three revolvers chambered in 9x19.

Ditto for 45ACP. 700-X is my main choice with Unique or Accurate #5 as alternates. Good loads in both revolvers and semi-autos. (Moon clips rock)

I like 700-X in 44 Special as well.

I like IMR 4227, and I’ll tell you why. Although it may be inefficient in non-magnum cartridges, it still produces really good velocity in most of them, and in most cases (although there are some) you’d be hard pressed to ever get enough powder in the case to really cause an over pressure load.

For an all-around, most useful powder covering target velocity loads to mid-range hunting and defense uses: Win 231 or Unique. From a strictly metering ease: Win 231. These choices will cover everything from .32 Long to .45 Colt in my 50+ years of use and in both revolvers and autos.

Allowing for a more tailored list of three powders, here are my choices.

Target velocity loads in both types of handguns: Bullseye or WST

Medium velocity loads up to ~1100 fps in revolvers: Unique, WSF, Herco or Power Pistol/BE-86
Medium velocity loads for Autos: WSF, PP, or Unique

Heavy Loads for hunting in revolvers: Win 296, H-110, or AA#9
