Favorite Rifle Cartridge Just Because…

7.62x39 of course, for the last 35 years. But it's not for no reason. I have plenty of good reasons, such as my super duper +p handloads that make it more a wildcat compared to any factory load.

I also like 30-30 Win just for tradition, and 308 Win just because.

I have a strange like for the “quarter bores”. The historical 250 savage, the 25-06, the “BOB”… I’m now considering a 25 creed, and the 6mms are starting to become interesting to me(GT in particular). Got a big soft spot in my heart for the 270 win, and the 308 win… can others do it better? Absolutely. Do I know it? Absolutely. I like em just cuz.
At the same time, I don’t know of one of the weatherby cartridges I don’t have a complete and irrational disdain for… sore shoulder, accuracy, barrel life, and ammo price not withstanding…

223/5.56

1. I don't like recoil
2. It is cost effective, which means more practice, especially when free brass is plentiful.
3. It is accurate
4. Versatile. It has won matches, defended our homes and country, and killed everything from small varmints to deer sized game.

Mine is more of a haunting from a rifle I walked away from at a local gun shop and never saw again. It was an old Sako L61R with a barrel stamp that said “300 MAG” from a time when that meant only one thing. I told myself there was no reason to have it and now I wake up pining for a 300 H&H for absolutely no good reason
