I figure most will favor a 22 for plinking duties, but what other rifles and calibers do you like for 100-300 yard target shooting,

I like 6.5x55. Has a little kick, but not obnoxious. I don't like target shooting with anything more powerful than that. Good BC and wind resistance.

My kimber Longmaster classic .223. I can shoot all day without getting a sore shoulder or missing

another vote for the 6.5 x 55

my cz452 has a nikon 3-9 x 40 ...helps my old eyes put the holes in life savers at 100 yards:)

5.56 AR-15, and 5.45 AK. They don't beat up my shoulder, and it are accurate at those distances.

My Remington 700 with a Krieger barrel chambered in .308 Win with a Leupold Mark 4 scope. Target shown was shot at 300 yards during the 10-round rapid fire stage of a service rifle match. I shot prone off a bipod with two sighters in two minutes followed by five shots in 70 seconds and another five shots in the next 70 seconds for a 12-shot group. I knew I was shooting high but was focusing on load development that day.

Now who said you can't use a 22 for 100-300 yards?? (haven't tried the 300 yard thing yet)

But, I have 4 that I like, the first two are used the most.

I shot rifles in competition for many years.

We have gallery leagues here in CT during the cold weather where we shoot 3 or 4 position matches at 50 ft. every Thursday night. For that I have a 40X with a thumb hole stock and a leather coat. I still have the M52C I used before that.

The center fire matches that I shot in were slow fire from 3 or 4 postions at 200 yds. They run in warm weather.

For them I used a 40X chambered for the 6mm Rem. Int'l. cartridge.

Here is my CF match rifle show with a test scope. For sights we use aperture iron sights.

I also shot in Schuetzen matches.
