I bought 10 boxes of Federal Premium vital-Shok 00-Buck with Flitecontrol wad:
http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/buckshot.aspx?id=472
PFC154 00
2 3/4"
9 pellets copper-plated 00 buck
1325fps

I bought 10 boxes as I want to try it in all my 12ga shotguns. If it does better than my current-favorite Rem Express 000-buck I'll switch. "Better" tighter pattern at range and/or POI closer to POA.

I am planning on cutting one open and looking at/photographing the innards. Has anyone done that with the Federal LE127-00, which has the same advertised characteristics?

I would like to know if they are identical, as PFC154-00 is a whole lot easier to come by.

I tested the FC stuff a few years ago....much better pattern than the cheapy 00.

Let me see if I can find my link to that thread...

I've been working with several Federal Flitecontrol loads in a shotgun project this past month, including both of the ones you mention.
I can't tell you the exact differences between the two, but if Federal uses a different designator, they are not identical.

The 12700 patterned better in a standard Rem 870 PMAX before porting, the 15400 patterned better in the same barrel after porting.

The Flitecontrol stuff shoots tight.
I'd be very surprised if it didn't pattern better for you than your Remington load, but POA/POI is another matter.
My test gun has sights, and everything I shot through it held good to POA out to as much as 50 yards.
A bead arrangement may show different results.

I shot a couple boxes of this stuff the other day. Light recoil compared to full magnum loads, but i don't like the small shot count.

I far prefer Remington 12 pellet 2 3/4" magnum 00 buck.

Your Remington load will spread much faster, reducing its effective range..

12 different 00 buck & the new Win PDX1 buck/ball load as a two-part test project to determine before & after Vang Comp barrel work comparisons and standard 00 vs Flitecontrol 00.

The short of it all is that the VC work and the Flitecontrol stuff are all worth the money.

It's all a matter of personal preference but I think FC buck actually shoots *too tight* at what I'd envision to be SD ranges, if I was going to run a load that runs tight enough that hit probability isn't really increased I'd probably just go one better and use slugs.

It IS a matter of personal preference.
If all you want is maximum spread at very short distances, these are not for you.
Re the slug- always a risk of overpenetration in both people and houses.

If you want greater utility over longer distances with less liability involved in a load that spreads wide enough to allow several pellets to miss, these ARE for you. :)

I'm in the latter category.

I generally prefer slugs, but I don;t want one to go through my neighbor's house. I'll have to pattern these FC loads in my shotguns.

Good, because if i'm using my shotgun for real the range will be 10 yards or less, and probably a lot less. (according to FBI stats 90% of all self defense shootings occur at a range of 7-10 feet.)

I welcome a larger pattern for my application. And the extra 3 pellets, and the higher velocity.

I don't go for the tightest patterns nor the loosest but somewhere in the middle, so that I get a decent "burst fire" effect starting out the ranges {7 yards +} where I'll probably start needing it.
