I have always used FN or handloads in my Ruger 57. Recently I bought a few boxes of Federal American Eagle AE5728A 40 grain. The very first one did not chamber. I dropped the magazine, locked the slide and raised the muzzle to attempt to remove the round. The cartridge case fell out, followed by propellant and then the bullet, I unloaded the magazine, put the rounds back in the box and put the pistol away, since it was now littered with loose powder.
I wrote Federal, curious to see their response.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

I would contact Federal to let them know.

Back when I had a 5.7 AR upper, all I ran was Federal American Eagle and it always worked great and was accurate too.

@Trent documented a problem with Federal 5.7x28 ammo setback many years ago. It seems they don't glue/epoxy/whatever their bullets into the case but FN does. Trent's research convinced me to always buy FN ammo for my gun. I passed the same advice on to the guy I sold my gun to.

Had the same thing happen to me several years ago with the first round fired out of my NIB FN 5.7. The moderator (and P-90 owner) of the firearm forum that I frequented at the time informed me then that bullet/case separation was an inherent problem with American Eagle 5.7 x 28 ammunition. Apparently it still is.

Never a problem with FN (Fiocchi) ammunition. Around that same time CDNN Sports had a sale on FN 5.7 ammunition and I bought 1500 rounds at .23 cents per.
