Federal AWB is not being brought up for vote in Senate

I don't think that assault weapons should be legal. I mean they look exactly the same as automatic versions of the same gun and they're just too scary.

Do not trust Dirty Harry for a micro-second.We are stuck with him here in Nv,and know only too well that Harry only does what is good for Harry. For the right price all sorts of unlikely things can happen.

It appears that Feinstein has been trumped by senator Harry Reid. Senate judiciary chairman Partick Leahy had promised senator Feinstein a full senate up or down vote on her proposed AWB.

BTW: "Dirty" Harry Reid voted against extending the AWB in 2004.

Please don't be lulled into complacency. These politicians can easily try to attach something to a totally unrelated bill in order to get something done and placate the antis. Not that ANY of our politicians would ever do anything in the back room.

And please remember that not even Ficklestein thought that this bill had a chance to pass. The agenda is to pretend that they are defeated and then get some watered down version passed so they can say they compromised.

GOOD JOB TO ALL !! Every phone call, talk with your neighbors, it all made a difference in past & future.

REMAIN VIGILANT!! It could just be a ploy to 'maintain power' in next election cycle

This is how the student loan guarantee program got totally subsumed into government control--in the so-called Affordable Health Care Act. Worse, they will put an unpopular concept into a bill then call that bill something like "The Protection of Cuddly Puppies Act" so anyone voting against it looks like a cross between Adolf Hitler and Cruella DeVille.

While I would not put anything past our esteemed elected officials in Washington, the assault weapon ban is such a hot button topic, I am sure it would kill any unrelated bill it got attached to.

Now, the AWB could get attached to the other pending gun legislation with less effect on those bills.

We still need to keep the pressure on until the bill is completely dead. Then we need to keep up the pressure to actively roll back some of the past gun control changes.

Opened the article, read it over, and flipped her the bird :D

Now we just need to watch whats in that 'Democrat Gun Control Bill' thats supposed to make it to the house floor. o_O

Reid’s decision highlights the tightrope walked by the majority leader in governing the gun control issue. Trapped between the White House and rank-and-file Democrats who support broad gun control legislation following the shootings last December in Newtown, Conn., Reid must also be mindful of red-state Democrats up for reelection in 2014 who favor gun rights.

Senator Reid is well aware that a total ban on any particular class of firearms that can be associated with the Unorganized Militia of The United States is unlikely to get past a review by the federal court system, given Supreme Court decisions in Miller, Heller, and McDonald. That, and repercussions in the 2014 mid-term election might cost the Democrats control of the Senate and an even greater loss in the House. He remembers that happened in 1994, even if other Democrats don't.

However, if his party does retain control of the Senate, and doesn’t suffer otherwise, he might reconsider after 2014. :uhoh:

That's good news.

I might be incorrect, because it all blurs after a while, but the fact that it is going to be allowed as an amendment sounds familiar, like I might have read in a news article a few weeks ago that Reid was going to allow it to be introduced as an amendment (?).

Anyway, anything that helps to destroy that proposed legislation is good in my book. Time to keep up the pressure...

The awb is still getting a vote in the senate

Please don't get complacent. What happened is Feinstein was told that her AWB (S. 150) will not be part of the "base gun control bill" offered by Dems. This means that the bill that gets a floor vote will not have AWB language in it. However, Feinstein can still offer her bill as an amendment to this bill (or any other gun bill) and if she has the votes (50 or 60 depending on the procedural tactics used) it will become part of whatever bill she tries to attach it to.

The reason they did this is because the Dem leadership really wants registration and they are afraid that putting the AWB in the base bill will kill all of their gun control - and cause them to lose Senate races in 2014.

The game here is with the AWB separate, your not-so-Second-Amendment-friendly Senators can tell you in 2014: "I support the Second Amendment and voted against gun and magazine bans; however I continue to support reasonable, common-sense gun laws like (having you stupid hillbillies tell me what guns and magazines you own so that after I'm re-elected I can fix that) universal background checks."
