I have owned this gun for several years but have only taken it out a couple of times to the range. I seem to have an ongoing problem with the .357 round getting hung up as I try to chamber it. The odd thing is that .38 specials don't have this issue. I would really appreciate any advice as to why this might be happening. I am basically a handgun shooter and have very little experience or knowledge when it comes to long guns.

I'm assuming this is a Winchester 94. The 94 in pistol calibers is notorious for being sensitive to cartridge length (OAL). Keep in mind that the 94 action was originally designed for longer cartridges, such as the 30-30. For some reason, it doesn't seem to handle pistol length cartridges particularly well. Some that will shoot .357 fine will choke on .38 specials, and others (like yours) seem to be the other way around.

A gunsmith with a little experience in lever actions can usually adjust a 94 to handle the cartridge length you like, but then it probably won't handle other lengths as well.

?

Mike get ahold of the SAA site and ask for a smith in you area I`m sure you`ll get a few refurals, Also my want to give Winchester a call?

I have a Trapper in .44 Mag that's just the opposite. Feeds Magnums without a hitch but the shorter .44 Specials are a no-go on feeding. A gunsmith told me this can be corrected but it wasn't important enough for me to bother.
