I've had the FNS since last November of last year and have been putting a good bit of rounds through it to date and here's what I've found.

Pros:
-100% reliable thus far
-Comes with 3x 17 round magazines
-I like the night sights with the wide "u" notch rear
-It's more accurate than I am
-Reasonably priced vs. its' competitors
-Low bore axis
-Cold hammer forged barrel
-Standard 1913 rail
-Ambi mag release and slide lock
-Great ergos
-Forward and rear cocking serrations
-Ease of maintenance
-Comes with interchangeable flat and arched backstraps
-Extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator like a Glock

Cons:
-I think the trigger's a little heavy (breaks between 6-7 pounds)
-FN seems to have fixed the initial trigger locking issues but the gun took a hit to its' reputation when it was released from this for sure
-The standard model has an external safety. The LE restricted model doesn't. I'd like to see them offer both to everyone as many folks do not want an external safety.
-Aftermarket magazine availability is an issue compared to its' competitors

Here's a video with a little shooting, a demonstration of how to break the gun down, a size comparison with a G17/1911 for those unfamiliar with it, and a discussion of the features of the gun:

I have the model with the night sights and thumb safety. Absolutely one of my favorite 9mms. My initially came from the factory with a defective striker and the tip broke off it after 130 rounds. FN's customer service was great, no hassle. I've put over 700 flawless rounds through it since the repair. Great gun!

I've got the .40 FNS, and I love it. It's my go to home defense pistol and probably my cold weather under-jacket edc. It's made me a big fan of the caliber. It's an accurate, reliable, and handsom pistol. While it doesn't have the most robust aftermarket support, I see no reason why this gun wouldn't last thousands upon thousands of rounds.

The safety doesn't bother me. I shoot enough guns with safeties, I constantly try to sweep it off on my Glock:evil:

The FNS has sold me on the company. When I get money ahead, I'm getting another model for sure.

Had one. Never could get used to the trigger [striker fire]. Traded it at a local gunshop for a CZ P-09 and couldn't be happier. For what it [the FNS-9] is, . . . it is a fine weapon.

I have an FNS-9 and I love it. 1911 grip angle and comes with a flat backstrap that matches my flat mainspring housing on my 1911. It's solid and well made, and so far (300 rounds or so) perfectly reliable. A great value with tritium night sights and three mags. To top it off its made in the USA which does matter to me.
