Does anyone have a Fiala pistol or even a picture of one.

I recall reading an article about these guns some years ago. It is similar in appearance to the Colt Woodsman .22 but is NOT an automatic. The slide must be manually racked to chamber each round and to eject.

Vintage 1920 or thereabouts.

Anthony Fiala was an arctic explorer who also accompanied Teddy Roosevelt in the early portion of his voyage in the Amazon country. He went into the sporting goods business in his later life.

Fialas To The Rescue

Hi Maia007. Glad to hear someone asking about Fialas. Whatcha need? Below is a picture of the assortment a cased-set owner can build from the pieces in that case. Plus I stuck its near relative, the Hi-Standard Model B, in for comparison, and a factory "Special Order" 12 1/2" barreled piece I managed to obtain. (accidently put 12" on photo...)

Let me know if there's anything else you need. Got hundreds of pictures available, including various 3-bbl sets and cases. Also got lots of info on the history of Anthony Fiala, including his trip to the Amazon with Teddy.

I carry a gun, 'cause a cop is too heavy!

Fiala Arms and Equipment Co. went out of business after a few years and several others finished and sold the guns over the years. Fiala Outfits, Columbia Arms, Botwinick Brothers, and Schall are all reported to have sold these guns. I have a Fiala, a Columbia and a Schall in my collection.

I have gathered some of the literature about these guns and posted it on my website ar the link below. There are now nearly 100 iin teh list of known survivors.

Thanks guys. I just finished reading a book about TR and the River of Doubt expedition in which Fiala played a role. That got me remembering about the Fiala pistol article I read twenty years ago or so.

It's good to hear that there is still collector interest in these. Unfortunately, I don't own one.
