Started breakfast this morning. Little black specks in the box of Quaker Old Fashion Grits. Box label says this is normal. These looked a bit larger than normal so removed a few and laid them on the counter. Seconds later they had grown legs and were crawling off.
I use grits as filler in cartridges and revolver cylinders any way so now I got a few months supply.
Also had an unopened box. These just had the normal tiny specks.

Grits and bugs. Now I'm imagining a whole new element of black powder shooting fun.

My grandmother's sister used to have grits every morning and if I was visiting she'd offer some. One time when I was about to accept, I looked at the container on the counter and saw a hole in it. Looked inside and saw black specks. The black specks were mouse turds. I said something about it but she said she just flicked them out and cooked as if it was normal. Never ate anything at her house ever again.

That was my first thought. I examined the box and no hole, lid was tight. Had planned on just picking out the bigger specs until that speck started crawling off.

If even bugs like those grits, you know they must be good.

In Florida it’s a minuscule ant called Ghost Ants. These here, not a clue, but if any are in the 30 rounds of 45C reduced black powder loads I put up yesterday they are going for a ride this morning.
Got a conversion cylinder for a Remington Carbine. Trying different powder weights to shoot to POA at 50 yards.
