49FB5076-CC1D-44EB-BD87-3376B58CEE37.jpeg I’ve been on an NYPD collecting kick. I am retired from thst department and I like guns with history. I’ve got guns starting with a 1946 M&P to a 1993 Glock 19. Newest addition is a 1983 Model 10-8. Winning bid was $280. Hardly any wear at all. clean on outside and filthy on inside. gonna pop the side plate this weekend

Well done, again! Just check the front sight and make sure it wasn’t used as a screwdriver, joke, but true NYPD story! Enjoy, they are just great shooters.

Absolutely not. Wood looks nice but I shoot a K or L frame like a laser beam with rubber Pachmayr grips. These ones are the standard Gripper grips, with the covered back strap. I prefer the Gripper Professionals with the exposed back strap. But I’m gonna leave it like it is. The wood was often removed and the Pachmayr was the only authorized substitution. This is how it was carried and how I would have carried it.

I also think the Pachmayr grips looks sharp with the medallions.

I too picked up a Model 10 at a gun show. It's an old one and hasn't had any work on it except for the grip change. I love Pachmyers.

The old Smiths have much better actions then the new model so I didn't take the plate off which is unuserual for me. It's about 7 pounds and smooth.

You did great at your price. Congratulations and good luck, good shooting with it.

Looks like mine. Grips and all. Those grips are perfect. I mean perfect for shooting a lot for my hand size.

Hard to go wrong with a model 10 (or its predecessor)! For some reason, I seem to have wound up with four of them myself. You got a pretty good deal there-- I've seen similar go for $500 where I live.

Neat! I’d snap up that cool revolver for $380, $280 for a nice Model 10 is a great deal indeed!

Those old service guns are both a bit of history, as well as usually rarely used and bargain priced, truly the best of both worlds :).

Stay safe.

Nice score!

Are there NYPD markings on it?

No markings. Just a standard Model 10. The guns were bought by the officer so no markings. But the dealer I got it from is in my hometown growing up and that was right outside the NYC border. Lots of retired cops sold their stuff in there. This one was made in 1983 so I gotta think it's a long retired cop's gun who didn't want to take it with him to wherever he was moving, or maybe his widow sold it. I've bought several guns from him, and they all lettered to the NYPD. I have no reason to doubt him now but maybe I'll spring for a letter at some point.

I have a Model 64 Snub that is purported to have been carried by a semi local police chief back in the day.
I have no proof of that, but I also have no reason to doubt it as the timelines make sense soooo...
Sometimes the mystery adds to the allure of a gun.

Howdy

The best deal I ever got on a S&W was this Model 10-5 that I picked up for $125. Of course that was close to 20 years ago, dunno what it would go for today. This one shipped probably in 1964. I have always assumed it was a police trade in. I have always assumed the number 54 stamped on the frame above the trigger is a police armorer's rack number.
