Yeah, I don't know what the deal was; the cars were made in the same plants as the guns, yet only the latter were worth a darn. My M76 is about as 'nice' as I can imagine an AK-derivative being, and these M53 kits which are getting built into semi-autos were in top, unissued shape when the torch-men arrived

Not quite as nice as Polish stuff, which seems to have always been needlessly high-polished (maybe it was an inside joke), but pretty good quality. Their derivative of the MP40 was pretty good (M56) as was their version of the PPSH (M49)
