I had an opinion about Kimber 1911s--too little for too much. I had a friend who owned a Custom II and loved it. I shot it several times and it was good for me, but I insisted on sticking with my BHP or Colt 1991A1.

Then I stopped into my usual shop and the owner told me he'd just received a Pro Crimson Carry II. I looked at it and the same old thoughts ran through my head, but then I found out he was willing to let it go for a couple hundred under MSRP. I'd been waiting to trade some older pieces, so now I have the Kimber.

Story aside, for those who own or have owned 4" Kimbers, any suggestions for ammo type? I'll be shooting plenty of standard ball for a while to make sure things are working properly, but any consistent experience with JHP loads that are Kimber friendly?

Any suggestions for aftermarket bits and pieces? I'm already thinking about a new slide release, since I've heard of several problems with those. A new, stiffer recoil spring from Wolff will probably be on the way shortly, as well.

I've a Pro Eclipse II. with a 4" barrel. It likes loads a little on the stiff side. Kimber says to change the recoil spring after every 5000 rounds. Have already gone through 3 Wolff springs + the factory one.

Kimber Pro CDP

I have shot:
--Winchester Ranger 230 gr +P
--Remington Golden Sabre 230 gr
--Taurus TCB Hex bullet (Barnes all-copper X-bullet) 185 gr
and any number of lesser JHP and FMJ, plus a whole bunch of my 200 gr SWC handloads.

With my recently acquired Pro Eclipse, only my 200 gr SWC handloads so far. Everything has fed and functioned perfectly, no spring changes as yet...

Doesn't Kimber say 1500 rounds for the pro? Shoot 500 rounds of standard ball ammo and when you've deemed it reliable, shoot a few boxes of your carry load. I use Federal Hydrashok ammo and my Kimbers love it. My Compact Custom, Eclipse Target, and 9mm SS pro all love that ammo. They have loved any ammo, but some Kimbers have been known to be finicky.
