Today was a really good day for me. I stopped by my LGS early today and the owner told me to come back for lunch. When I returned I got a free lunch and was talking to the owner and another customer when I saw a new revolver in the pistol case. This gun was not there earlier so I was courious what it was. As I approached the case my eyes light up. I have been looking for an used SP101 for a while because I couldnt drop the coin for a new one. Could this be what i have been looking for for so long I thought to myself. I looked at the tag and it was listed at $325. I became super excited at first and then my heart sank for a split second thinking that it must be a 327 mag. When I saw the caliber my eyes light up again and I almost peed myself. I couldn't wait for them to open up the case so I had reach around the counter and get it myself. Needless to say there was no negoitation on the price. The owner said that he just gotten it in about 30 min earlier and just put it in the display case. Now I may have made this story more dramatic than it really was, but I finally got my SP101 after about two years. Now I need a holster and some 357 mag brass to load. Im open for suggestions on a holster.

I've owned three of them they are built like tanks ,the only revover I know that's tougher is its big brother the GP 100. They are a little heavy for me to be an edc I prefer a J frame but you really can't kill them. Congrats you got a good deal !

Excellent story. Excellent gun. I found a used one for $350 at Gander Mountain of all places. Such a fantastic shooter. A total tank.

Congrats. I carry mine in a Simply Rugged pancake holster OWB. Carries real comfortably. If your looking at IWB, there are lot of great hybrid holsters out there.

What barrel length?

If it had been a .327 Federal Magnum, it would be priced about $600 too low.

Either way, that's a very good price.

You are going to love it. I usually carry mine in a Galco Miami Vice Classic shoulder holster. Even in hot and humid Illinois summers, it is still comfortable. A simple shirt hides it well and I've carried it for 8-10 hours at a time. I also carry it in the Versa-Carry using either the 2" model for snubs or for a deeper concealment, the longer Versa-Carry I bought for my PPK. Is it heavier than a Tactical Tupperware piece? Sure is. Is it likely to be ammo finicky? Nope. FTF/FTE's... bye-bye! I did change out the springs with a set of Wolff springs and I'm even more pleased. Fine firearm.

I carry mine in a wet moulded owb pancake that I made. Packs high and tight and draws ridiculously smooth. A forum friend of mine sent me a set of custom wood inserts to dress it up a bit. Something about that all business look that has always appealed to me.

Probably my favorite gun.

I bought one brand new for $350......in 1994....I carry it daily. I can shoot better groups with it than many guys can do with full size guns

I carry my 44mag in an Simply Rugged and it works great. If I were to get another holster I would also look at CraigC's holsters.

Nice grab. That's the way I bought mine. It was at my LGS and under glass for less than 20 minutes. I was the first person in after a guy put it on consignment.

Mine's a 2.25" version. Put a new Meprolight front sight on it about two weeks ago. Got some striped maple inserts from 44 Magnum over on the RugerForum, and it is a sweet looking gun. It's a regular in the carry rotation.

AWESOME PRICE!!! Love the Sp101. One of the finest snub nose .357s made. I own two. You'll have it a good long while if you take care of it and keep the ammo reasonable in the .357 magnum range (heck your hand is more likely to give up with Buffalo Bore than the revolver for that matter).

Congrats I picked one up for the wife to carry in her purse just load it up with 38+P the perfect gun Wrong she found a Smith ultra light 38+P the 101 was so heavy .. Now I carry the 101 sometimes with a pachmyer grip love the gun ..

My SP101 is my AIWB gun. That and my LCR357 in the pocket. I'm good to go every day all day.

Congratulations! Love my 3" SP101 and I'm sure you'll love yours more and more as time marches on as well.

Holsters....

My first handgun way back in 1993 was a 5 shot 2.25" .357magnum Ruger SP101(DA only). :)
I paid $293.00 USD.
The SP101 is a outstanding platform for a compact .38spl or snub .357magnum. It's not a pocket gun or ankle rig piece, but it's robust & well engineered for close range(CQB) defense.
For holsters Id see Don Hume, Galco, Bianchi, Alessi, DeSantis, El Paso Saddlery, Mitch Rosen, Wright Leather Works, Kramer Leather, Milt Sparks.

Some armed professionals use horsehide holsters. They last long & hold up under rough conditions.
For custom SP101 work, I'd suggest www.Geminicustoms.com . They do grips, sights, ported barrels, action hones.
A CT lasergrip, www.crimsontrace.com can help too. They are bright & easy to install.

For carry or defense Id suggest a .38spl +P or +P+ round(factory only). The 135gr +P Speer Gold Dot, the DPX, the MagSafe SWAT .38spl, the PDX1 .38spl load.
Tuff Products, www.Tuffproducts.com 5 round orange strips(Quik Strips) are great for spare ammunition. You can tote 2 strips in a Altoids case. :D
