I've purchased L frames (586, 686), N frames (28, 27, and Outdoorsman), j frames (49 and 36)and an M&P 3rd Change w/6" barrel. But never could find a Model 15 in decent shape. Or ,if I did, it would be gone when I returned a couple days later.:banghead: I started to believe that I was never meant to own one. :(

Until last week.

One of the officers in my department decided to get rid of his "dead weight guns". His quote not mine. Among the Rugers, Beretta, H&R shotguns and Marlin 22 rifles was a Model 15-4. Oh joy and happiness. He knew I was likely to be the only one to come calling.

Checking it out I discovered a specimen in excellent condition. Though a Model 15-4 it doesn't have the pinned barrel. The serial number shows it being manufactured circa 12/82 - 01/83. No idea as to when final assembly occurred or shipping date. I guess this makes it a transition model. Well sort of, but I don't care.

My fellow officer was asking $225.00. I bought it on the spot. So now I own a Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. Very nice trigger action. And very accurate.Everything I've read over the past few years is true. Amazing.

What took me so long? :D

I'll post a picture in a couple of days.

Those are lovely revolvers. There's just not much you can say, that you haven't.

How often did your fellow officer use it as a carry piece ?

Did he use it to qualify ?

Very nice price. If you're unhappy about the amount of love being shown for it, I'd be happy to relieve you of it for the sale price. :p

I also have a no pinned barrel 15-4. I like to think I "rescued" mine at a local pawn shop. It was in sad shape, just totally neglected really. Rust in quite a few spots with a fairly large area on the side plate had pitted. I knew it was a diamond in the rough though. I sanded and polished, soaked it in some vinegar to take the bluing off and took it to my local smith for some touch up and a $75 hot bluing bath. Also bought and added a target hammer and trigger. I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

I have every intention of posting a photo. The officer I bought it from is an avid hunter and Cowboy Action shooter, but he's also a true blue gun nut and has a tendency to gather firearms. I got the impression that the M15 just sat in his safe gathering dust.

He's a big 1911A1 guy. Before the 1911 was authorized he carried a S&W Model 586. Now we are all carrying Glocks. Department went to a uniform issue a couple years ago.

Okay here it is. Sorry about the quality. Had to borrow a camera.

I have some nice Herrets as well as the S&W target stocks and Magna grips. I prefer to shoot with Pachmayrs. One of those quirks I guess.

SWEET lookin' gun!

I had an Astra .357 revolver that LOOKED good. Darn thing wouldn't hit the side of a barn though! Buddy has (or had it) and I haven't seen it in quite a while.
