I brought my 5 1/2" Stainless ROA to a local gun show in an effort to get some better looking, better fitting grips. Shockingly enough I succeeded. The stock grips were wood, not the usual white ivory for some reason.

The frame is marked XRN and the grip guy said that the grips should not have fit....go figure. He did some minor fitting and tweaking on site and I am very pleased with the result. The grips came with their own stainless screw and he had to shorten it a bit get the panels to tighten down.

As you can see, the grips use a blind screw so the right panel is perfectly smooth. Which is exactly what I wanted.

The two bullets are the BigLube 210gr and 150gr I shoot. I'm waiting for the new redesigned 210 to come out.

I'm going back to Remington Primers. I find Winchesters tend to jam up at least once per cylinder and I never noticed that with the Remingtons.

Eventually I'll send it to Lee's gunsmithing for one of their "Gunslinger" action jobs and pick up Kirst Cylinder. But right now I'm having too much fun shooing it as it is and I don't want to part with it for six weeks.

Where did you get those grips??

I got a pair of Ajax checkered wood for my ROA, rasped all that nice checkering off to get them slim enough for my tiny, but apparently fat, hands.

Blind hole, faux ivory sounds good to me.

Darn good looking grips. I've got a pair just like that on my 5 1/2 Stainless ROA.

I was told by the "grip guy" that Ajax was now out of business and in his opinion, that's where they needed to be. He said it was a family business, the father either passed away or passed it on to his sons, who then promptly ran it in to the ground. He has several stories about dealing with them that were not at all flattering..

Anyway, these are not Ajax grips. He sorta refused to say who made them for him but I do have his business card if anyone is interested. I have to warn everyone though...he said these grips should not have fit the "Old Army" and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

As to the extended ram...I like the way it looks. I don't shoot round balls at all. I shoot pretty much nothing bullets and use a loader by Dick Dastardly. (It's embarrassing just saying that name.) So I take the cylinder out to load it. I expect it's going to get scratched more than normal doing that. So sooner or later I'm going to have to get it refurbed.

I do really, REALLY! want to send it to Lee's Gunsmithing. There's not a thing wrong with it, other than me putting some wear on it. I'd just like to see how much better it can be made. I'm going to shoot it till it's too cold out to shoot and then send it off. Lee's said it takes weeks and that's longer than I want to be without it right now.

They're both BigLube bullets designed for the ROA, 150 gr and 210 gr. I bought them from Whyte leather works but I'm going to buy both molds from www.biglube.com. I'm waiting for the word on the updated version of the 210gr.

Yep, cold...I like to enjoy shooting and if I'm so cold during one of my favorite pastimes that I start to feel like I'm using my black powder pistol to reenact Napoleon's retreat from Moscow in 1812...then I expect I'd enjoy it as much as Napoleon did.
