i have a pair of nice fully checkered walnut slabs for my 1911 that i've just stained with dark walnut. they turned out pretty nice but the finish is too glossy for my taste. i haven't used anything on top of the stain at all. to back up a little, they were a regular walnut finish, which i initially used tru oil on to seal them up. before this stain i used some denatured alcohol to cut the tru oil and then applied the dark walnut stain. is there anything i can do to turn the finish to more of a satin??

thanks for any suggestions

When they are good and dry rub them out with a little OOOO steel wool, It will take the sheen off them without making them dull if that makes any sense. More of a satin type finish.

thanks HSMITH

that's what i'm looking for...satin finish. these look really glossy. too flashy for me.

You can buy a bottle of Birchwood Casey's Stock Sheen and Conditioner and use as directed. It works well to turn the gloss into a nice satin sheen.
