Before I hurl myself into the finish abyss, have any of you done any finish work on Rossis? I bought a new M92 44mag, and the wood looks to be a plain walnut, maybe a little on the soft side (it has small handling dings). I thought I would put something on it before I start banging it around, and before I follow dfariswheel's excellent instructions in his "How to do the World's best oil finish" http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=240961 I thought I'd ask if anyone has been down this Rossi-road before. I finish wood frequently, and use several types as indicated - Minwax, BLO, raw LO, raw Tung Oil, TO varnish, Watco Danish Oil (as used with superb results by Dean Dillabaugh/Dean's Gun Restoration), etc., but if anyone has any caveats or tips on this particular wood, I'd appreciate a heads-up.
Cheers and regards,
George J.

My Rossi has good looking wood, but I bet it would look incredible if I would take the time to do the Antique Oil finish.

I've done it on a front stuffer, and it was a ton of work, but looks beautiful.
