All in fun, and inspired by the recent thread about gun movies, I wanted to see what gun songs you all loved, whether the song is all about firearms, or just has a good lyric or two mentioning them.

In respect of THR's copyright policy, it's probably best just to give the name and artist of the song, and post a link to it on youtube if one's available. Maybe a snatch of lyric if you feel it's appropriate.

Mine's going to be Robert Johnson's "32-20 Blues." For those attached to the .38 special, please refer to the other recent thread "Ever had your gun ridiculed?" before listening :neener:

"I send for my baby, and she don't come
All the doctor's in Hot Springs sure can't help her none
If she get's unruly, thinks she don't wan do
Take my 32-20 now and cut her half in two"

The best?

Hank Williams Jr. "A Country Boy Can Survive"

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

A friend turned me onto Nick Cave when I was much younger. Admittedly not for everyone (or even most people), but I really like his version of "Crow Jane". It's about a woman who gets raped by some miners, picks up some guns and kills the rapists.

"O Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson
Why you close up shop so late?"
"Just fitted out a girl who looked like a bird
Measured .32, .44, .38
I asked that girl which road she was taking
Said she was walking the road of hate

"Well you aint gotta be born out in the sticks,
With an F-150 and a thirty-ought six."

Hillbilly Bone- Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins.

My first thought was Marty Robbins...."Big Iron" .. Bubba you beat me to it!
One of my favorites!

Other thoughts:
Toby Kieth - Bullets in The Gun
Steve Forde - Guns & Guitars (have a way of breaking ladies hearts)
Eric Clapton - I shot the Sheriff
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps / Saturday Night Special
Aerosmith - Janies Got A Gun (a favorite from aerosmith)
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Steve Miller - Take The Money & Run

hmmmmmm......

Oh oh! Vicki Lawrence/Reba - Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia

hmmmm.... running out of ideas.......

Ah! From same era Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods - Billy Dont Be A Hero!

I still have that one on 45.....:D

Brand new song by the band Deuce called America. You'll have to google the lyrics, they don't fit the language policies on THR. :)

Actually the song fits the current political turmoil of the world pretty decently as well as being loosely gun related.

The Dirty Heads- Lay me down.

Well this is how it starts Two lovers in the dark
On the run, from the one That they called Sheriff Spark
Six guns by their side and Bullets around the waist
Two shots to the sky signal sign for the chase
The safe was nearly empty and They were nearly free
But were seen by the Good eye of the mean Billie Green
And he screamed at the top of his lungs They're on the run
It's the two wild siders Grab your holsters and your guns

Well, the crowd cleared away
And I began to pray
And the water fell on the floor
And I'm telling you son
Well, it ain't no fun
Staring straight down a forty-four

Gimme three steps~ Lynyrd Skynyrd

LORNE GREENE
"Ringo"

He lay face down in the desert sand
Clutching his six-gun in his hand
Shot from behind, I thought he was dead
But under his heart was an ounce of lead
But a spark still burned so I used my knife
And late that night I saved the life of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo . . .)

I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun
And hour on hour I watched in awe
No human being could match the draw of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

One day we rode the mountain crest
And I went east and he went west
I took to law and wore a star
While he spread terror near and far
With lead and blood he gained such fame
All throught the West they feared the name of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

I knew someday I'd face the test
Which one of us would be the best
And sure enough the word came down
That he was holed up in the town
I left the posse out in the street
And I went in alone to meet Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

They said my speed was next to none
But my lightning draw had just begun
When I heard a blast that stung my wrist
The gun went flying from my fist
And I was looking down the bore
Of the deadly .44 of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

They say that was the only time
That anyone had seen him smile
He slowly lowered his gun and then
He said to me "We're even, friend"
And so at last I understood
That there was still a spark of good in Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

I blocked the path of his retreat
He turned and stepped into the street
A dozen guns spit fire and lead
A moment later, he lay dead
The town began to shout and cheer
Nowhere was there shed a tear for Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

The story spread throughout the land
That I had beaten Ringo's hand
And it was just the years, they say
That made me put my guns away
But on his grave they can't explain
The tarnished star above the name of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )
(Ringo... Ringo... )
