Anyone know an insurance provider that will cover all of my firearms?

As soon as my current policy expires I plan on switching to something that will completely cover my firearms. I asked my State Farm agent but she stated that they will only cover up to $5000 when it come to firearms. Not acceptable.

So does anyone have any advice on how to insure my collection?

Thanks

You can just estimate the value of your contents on your homeowners policy.

State Farm had me fill out a form that listed what I owned and the value, thats when I got the reply that they would only cover up to $5000 for firearms. I live in an apartment BTW.

I also have State Farm. Yes they will only cover up to $5000.00 on your standard policy, however they will cover as much as I want with a rider to my policy. I would check with your agent again and see if that is an option. My agent didn't even blink when I told him how much I wanted in coverage. The rates were very competitive. I have been with State Farm for 30+ years. Not that that gave me any special treatment.
NRA also has some coverage available.

Most homeowners insurance policies only cover up to certain amounts of some items: firearms, jewelry, fine art, furs, silverware, collectibles and other high-value objects. A $ 5,000 or 10,000 coverage limit is pretty common in the typical policy. However, as was pointed out, you can usually very easily and cheaply purchase a rider at additional cost to cover the full value of these items. When my wife inherited a set of antique silverware when her mother died, I got a rider to insure the estimated $ 15,000 value.

American Family was willing to write an extension to my regular insurance policy to cover all my firearms—providing I was willing to write down the makes, models, serials numbers, and all the rest of that registration @#$%^&!

Might rain silver dollars later this evening, too. I don't register my guns with anybody for any reason.

NRA is the cheapest, most trustworthy I've found.

Their premium is $1.66 per $100.00 of coverage.

They DO NOT make you give them the serial numbers of your guns, unless they are valued at more that $1,500.00, IIRC.

I had State Farm as an insurer for a while and did not realize that they only covered $1,000.00 worth of my guns, and if I wanted to add a rider to the policy to insure them for more, I had to provide serial numbers on all items, and their premium was rediculous!.

Also, being an NRA member alone gives you $1,000.00 of "Armscare" protection without having to sign up for anything else.

the NRA insurance is ( I think but am not 100% sure) $16 for every $1000 of coverage per year. that is on top of the $1000 firearm coverage that you get as being a NRA member. no having to provide make, model, serial #. having reciepts of the firearms and pictures or video is also very good to have. I have a CD rom with several pictures of each firearm and scanned copies reciepts stored in a firesafe stored at my parents house. make sure to also to include pics and copies of reciepts for mags and optics. that can sometimes the add on features can be as much as the firearm it went to.

I have renters insurance for $8 a month, and that includes an extra couple of dollars every 6 months to cover an extra rider for firearms coverage.

I was just looking at the site of the Collectibles Insurance agency. I have insurance with the NRA and the CIA rates are less than half of what the NRA charges, CIA covers the guns based upon replacement cost or the value you declare for replacement. The NRA only provides coverage based upon the bluebook value in 80% condition for a covered loss and does not cover accessories. NRA also does not cover flood or water damage, neither covers damage from firing or wear which is to be expected. This is a much better deal than the NRA coverage. Does anyone here have the CIA coverage????

How are they to deal with, have you ever field a claim and how were you treated???

Thanks

one thing to keep in mind with http://www.collectinsure.com

Q. If I regularly shoot my guns or carry a gun for self protection can I insure these guns?

A. No. Our coverage is for guns mainly owned as collectibles. If you occasionally shoot a gun for hunting or on a range we can insure it. For instance, if you take a particular gun out a couple of times a year on a hunting trip and it is stolen from your vehicle while eating dinner after a hunting trip, we pay.

if i understand this right any gun that is a regular shooter they might have issues with

I have a policy with CIA, but have never filed a claim. So far, they have been easy to deal with. You just send a letter to add more stuff to be covered. As I understand it, they do cover "occasional" shooters, but not "regular use" guns. My philosophy is that all of mine are "occasional," except for a half dozen or so that regularly get carried or hunted with, and my homeowner's and NRA insurance will cover those.

Insurance through USAA

If you can qualify for coverage with USAA check into a rider with them. I have a rider - super cheap and covers everything. USAA in general has beaten all other insurance quotes I've ever had (homeowners, auto, etc.). Best damn insurance company out there, IMO.

I'm with the NRA currently and have been happy.

Didn't like the paperwork drill with CIA when I looked into it. They're local though and I will look into them when the NRA policy is up.

When I looked into upping my USAA policy it was very pricey to get the amount that I wanted and they wanted specifics of what I was insuring. For those of you with USAA you may just want call them to make sure you have enough coverage. Great company, but didn't find them fitting my needs in this one instance.

Part of my collection is insured with Nationwide. Same $5,000 limit but no serial numbers. Try the link below. It's from the UC John Ross, who sometimes posts here.

(edited 5:23 - I'm a slow typist, guess he beat me to it. Great book for those who havn't read it.)

I'm looking into this again.

Got the NRA packet to renew my policy with them. They are about 3 times more than the CAI guys and don't cover knives, optics or magazines.

Need to call the CAI guys (and talk about the list they want) and look into the John Ross option.

If anyone has any new info please chime in.

Just got off the phone with USAA for those of you with them you might want to check your policy.

I have a rather large one with them. However, only covers $2k in firearms. To get the rider it was $375 for $25k and they wanted a huge amount of info to include serial numbers.

As much as I like USAA I'll have to go elsewhere for this.

One word of warning with any insurance. Make sure that you contract for replacement cost. Otherwise, they will depreciate your firearm, despite the fact that you took excellent care of it, and you might not be able to replace it for what they will pay you.
