So, I was buying some American Eagles and just out of curiosity was looking at some of the coins from other countries. Interestingly, Switzerland has a long history of minting coins celebrating their Schutzenfest:

I also recall when I was young I had a stamp collection (still do) and that there were some eastern European, possibly USSR, stamps the depicted firearms- Olympic commemoratives.

But I've never seen a US coin or stamp that depicted a firearm. Does anyone know of any? It'd be a real shame if there wasn't some commemorative of the firearms history of the US.

You arent looking very hard. There are no regular issue coins depicting guns but commemoratives are a different story. . The US Mint coins I can think of off the top of my head are the 2000 Massachusetts state commemorative quarter, The 1934-8 Boone Half, 2011 Army Half Dollar, 1992 Columbus half, Maybe the 1926 Oregon half ( hard to tell what the teamster is carrying ) , The 1921 Missouri half, The 1995 civil war half, 1993 WW2 commemorative half, 1925 Fort Vancouver half, 2015 US Marshall half, 1936 Elgin Illinois Half, 1925 Lexington Concorde half, 1998 Black Revolutionary Patriots silver dollar, 2002 West Point Dollar, 2004 Lewis and clark Dollar, 2012 Infantry Dollar ( it actually has an M4 on it ), and the 2005 Marines dollar . Most if not all portray soldiers carrying guns

Ive had a few of those over the years. Some are pretty obscure though. Commemorative half dollar collecting is its own world.

None of the modern ones except the Massachusetts quarter were circulated. The early 20th century halves were. They made a buttload of those in different configurations. Some are really obscure to the point of celebrating individual county anniversaries and there may be more with firearms. No pistols that I know of. The stone mountain half has a pistol holster but thats about it as far as I know.

Extra points if you can name the only US coin to depict an angel. ( OK its not that hard )

I would say the number still seems low considering we now have more guns than people here, but it's not like there are a ton of coins with cars on them, either (stamps, I'm sure there are plenty of). I would also say that stuff which actually circulates counts a heck of a lot more in practice, if it is about actually seeing something with a firearm on it with any frequency.

Who wouldn't buy service-firearm-themed stamps or quarters?

That said, I think we'd save a lot of money and not a few government jobs by just keeping the same stupid dies for more than six weeks...so would collectors ;)

The US mint makes a LOT of money that goes back into the treasury by selling commemorative coins. Smash $8 worth of silver between two dies and sell it for $20. Collectors snatch them up as fast as they come off the line. There are literally hundreds of different designs of silver dollars made in the last 20 years that will never see circulation. This isnt 1890. Theres no master engraver spending all day every day hand carving dies. Theyre all done on CNC from graphic design programs. The mint could pop out a dozen sets of dies a day.

The USPS also makes money selling stamps that will NEVER see the front of an envelope.

The Massachusetts quarter depicts the statue of the Minute Man at the Old North Bridge in Concord, Mass.

It is circulating currency.

Our state flag shows a bow and arrow and a sword.:)

And here's my grandfather's Massachusetts State Guard marksmanship trophy from the early 1900s that he gave me before he died.
