I hunt a series of properties for the purpose of hog and predator control. Each has its own issues, be it homesteads and buildings, livestock, farm equipment, and the ubiquitous and varied rules of each landowner ("You can shoot hogs and coyotes, but don't shoot ...."). Well, last night started on a new property where the owner has a bunch of yearling cattle that all but ruined the hunt, following me around, charging me and then when I would flash them with a light or make a noise, charge off in another direction. Needless to say, this scared the hogs. I set up on hogs with hopes to shoot either 6 or 7 times where my shot was spoiled by the curious cattle moving in on me or just walking into my shot. I had turned my recorder on and off several times during the course of the hunt such that when I finally did get a shot, I didn't have the friggin' recorder on. I did not make that mistake during the rest of the hunts.

Next, I went after a hog on another property that eluded me, but there were coyotes that I saw at the start of my stalk and so I backtracked to them and managed to call them in from across the road, getting all three.

The next hog was nearly a gimme. I pulled into the owner's property, parked at the house, got out to scan his pasture for hogs (no coyote shooting here) and to see if they had moved in the calves yet and spied a hog right behind the house. So I got out my rifle and sticks and set up between the truck and the fence and made the shot.

I went back to the property with the coyotes and entered another section of it in hopes of spotting hogs. About 500 yards into my trek through the property, spotted a coyote and tried calling it in...and it spooked, but ran just far enough to stop and turn back and look....

Aside from the video flub on the first hunt, it was a really good night for hunting. Lots of animals were out and about and even when I wasn't on hogs or coyotes, I was seeing plenty of deer, coons, possums, etc., and I could not have asked for much nicer weather. It is nice to be out and not be drenched in sweat the entire night.

Nice shooting and great video!
I had he same problem with cattle both hunting turkey and geese. I got out of sight while turkey hunting when I saw the cattle headed up to the barn knowing it was feeding time. As they passed downwind every ne of them stopped to look my way. I have had cattle step on my decoys while goose hunting many of times. They are a very curious animal.

Indeed the weather is getting nicer. Not only is it cooler, but the mosquitoes seem to be in decline. Sounds like a very successful evening hunt!
Did you leave the hog in the yard for the landowner to find as proof of your efforts? :p

Actually, I had his permission to do exactly that, but I dragged it behind some trees so that it was not readily visible from the house or when you came down the driveway. However, it was not to be missed. He said he counted 30 buzzards in the trees and on the ground as he left to run chores, fat and happy buzzards.
