First-ever ‘smart gun’ with fingerprint and facial recognition unlocking system hits the market

Taken out of context, I'm fine with it. Frankly, a gun which could be placed like a fire extinguisher, ready for access and yet safe from unauthorized use, is an interesting idea.

Realistically, there are objections from both political and practical standpoints.

Politically, this might give impetus to laws requiring such things in lieu of other guns. Moreover, one of the legal objections to California's gun laws is that such a thing does not exist. Now that it does, what effect will that have on ongoing lawsuits?

Practically, of course, there are all sorts of issues. In the simplest terms, if the thing works as well as the biometrics on gadgets like cell phones, then people are going to die as a result of being locked out of their own guns.

There are so many poison pill laws on the books that it almost always kills these products. There are places were a smart gun could be a desirable feature but in the current political environment they get very little pro-2A support due to the poison pill laws and the push to make all guns, smart guns and not all guns should be smart guns.

So what would happen if you are in a fight, your face swollen and fingers covered in blood? Sometimes my Iphone doesn’t unlock using my face. Have to punch in code. Cool idea if it works when you really need it to. Not just a trip to the range.
Imagine if they tried to mandate this technology on epipens?

Question.

If this new pistol had been the weapon of choice of ANY of the many mass shooters in the last half century would it have made a difference?

So the only place this would serve a purpose would be in preventing someone other than the owner from firing the gun. Granted, such events do happen but how often does it happen is a situation where the buyer would be capable or want to spend $1500.00 or more to buy the pistol?

"Safety" tech aside...that pistol looks to be very big and clunky. If the tech works, and it could be added to the "list", I'll bet they sell millions in CA.

I do not use battery-dependent accessories on my pistol. I am not about to bet my life on a pistol with a safety system that depends on battery power. Last week I got locked out of my car because the battery died in my key fob. Fortunately there is a way to get into the car with the emergency key and to start it. That all worked out well. It only took about 2 minutes to bypass the battery problem. Can you imagine a battery problem as you face a home invader? I can and therefore I would never adopt such a weapon.

Then there is the gun’s design. I don’t know if it is, but it looks off balance and possibly front heavy. So I don’t even want to look at the gun let alone own one.

You will be allowed a rate of fire equivalent to the average newbie shooting a single action revolver. It will have gps. A g force meter. Cameras in both directions. Audio. All recorded for your safety. (just my guess)

And who will be the first idiot live streaming a video of them putting the gun to their head and pulling the trigger to demonstrate how it will not fire because they are not an approved user? Some idiot will video their young kids playing with this new “safe” gun. This allows for more brain dead stupidity.

I find the CEO’s comments about kids and guns sleazy, I have a feeling others may feel the same way. Sounds anti gun, just looking to capitalize on it. CA lawmakers are already salivating, no doubt.

How many have had a computer go down? Will the police have access to a jamming device that will render them all inoperative? Anything is possible with a computerized device.

Aesthetics? Please!
