Wow, another beautiful Persian Mauser! Another member posted photos last week of their Persian Mauser and it also exhibited the same high quality of craftsmanship that went into the making of these rifles.

That is a fine looking rifle and in much better condition than I would expect for a military arm that is that old. The markings are obviously not German so I take it that these rifles were made especially for Persia ?

Thanks for the comments guys, I picked up some ammo(corrosive) on the way home.....you guys might Kringe but I don't blame you, but I really want to shoot it. Some pics of the ammo, any info regarding this ammo more looking at what bullet weight..thanks

The ammo is Yugoslavian M49 ball, 197.5gr boat-tailed projectile that will be about 2400-2500fps at the muzzle. I have a Czech Vz.98/22 (an ancestor of the Persian Vz.98/29) that really likes it.

I'd say you knocked it out of the pack with your first Mauser. Beautiful and I'm envious.

Much appreciate the comments guys, just got back from a short range trip. Shot at 50y...first 8 shots. Dang this thing got some kick...but me like:) shot sitting down with a front bag, my POA is a 6 o'clock hold. Check this out, where I purchased the rifle from has a bayonet and sheath for it. I asked to see if it matches my serial number.......and it does:), but they want some money for it:(
Hopefully they can give me a good deal...cause now I'm desperate to get it.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but will that stock (where it meets the receiver) give you any issues in the future?

BTW, beautiful rifle!

Man, I gotta get me one of those. When I saw the rear sights in Indo-Iranian script I started counting up in Urdu, "eek, do, tri, chaar, paanch...."

Thanks again guys

Fieldtester I'm assuming your talking about the top portion? In regards to removing? Found a guy with with same rifle on YouTube disassembling the whole rifle, looks pretty easy. Will break down my rifle...just want to see what's going on underneath.

One of these days (once I'm out of college) I'm jumping on the Mauser band wagon. Can. Not. Wait.

It really is in great condition, congrats on such a beautiful find!
Also congratulations on the bayonet!

Mind me asking where you found it and how much?

Thanks guys,
Fieldtester....let's just say my lgs which is 5k+miles from SD, and got it for les than $1k

Looks great disassembled too! The matching bayonet is in fine shape and a nice accessory to go with your rifle.

Great gun, great price. The only 98 Mausers that even come close to the Persians were the 1909 Argentines made by DWM. That's my opinion, anyway. This may sound funny but shoot the gun with the bayonet mounted, the groups may tighten....and they most certainly will shift. My Argentine shot a foot high at 100 yards with the sight at the lowest setting. With the bayonet on it was only a couple inches high.

One more thing....drool is very corrosive, and you will get a lot of it on your gun if you let others handle it very much. I'm drooling on my keyboard just looking at your pictures of the thing....

May I ask what you paid? A gun shop that I go to a lot has one in near perfect condition. They are asking $1899. It's been there for a long time needless to say.
You a have beauty of a rifle there.
