Well im hooked I must of shot near 200 rounds my hands and face covered with soot looked like a chimney sweep. It was a good day.
First shoot with the 1858 what a blast

Ya know, shooting BP is WORK. I never really understood why I like it so much. But, my cartridge guns go idle a lot, my '58 not so much. I usually break out a .22 if I don't wanna spend too much time and energy, just pop a few rounds, but lately, .22 bulk pack is hard to find. .454 RB is pretty hard to find, too, but I have a mold coming. 
Nothing quite so satisfying as that BOOOOM and haze it makes. I live out in the sticks now, just moved here. Just about everyone out here has a private range, the guy across the street has a nice one up near the road, owns 10 or 15 acres. I heard him fire off what HAD to be a BP cannon the other day a couple of times. It made that much noise. Was back in the woods where I couldn't see. I gotta meet that guy. We seem to have a few thins in common.

lol 200 rounds. I know i have shot a lot from my revolvers but 200. Heck i remember the first 1858 i got. i filled up the cylinder. Went and capped it. shot 6 rounds. Took it back loaded it up again. Shot 2 more rounds and the cylinder would not turn. had to remove the cylinder and clean off the arbor shaft. Since then i have using graphite but still cant get more than maybe 40 rounds before i have to start cleaning it up or it just binds up. Best shooting from that revolver is when i put a kirst cylinder in it. Then started shooting Trail Boss powder. Keep loads low with trail boss i can get 200 rounds. Just not with Holly Black unless i clean the shaft and swab the bore every cylinder full.

Scrat, It's not all that difficult to get 200 rounds out of a 58 Remington, all ya got to do is give it a shot of Pam aerosol cooking oil, every now and then and the gun just keeps shooting, especially if you're using wonder wads over the powder. The gun does get a bit greasy however you can shoot 'em forever like that.

Do you use something on top of the ball or just the wads?

4speed, I usually just use the wonder wad over the powder and 27 grns. of 3F Goex BP, in a .44 caliber. However the tha Pam aerosol works wonders, in keeping the cylinder free and moving.

Pam cooking spray is cheaper than Ballistol, I can tell you that.

Yup BHP, all of us gunfighters used the Pam aerosol in our six shooters, especially the little small can fit just right in our possibles bag. Could hold off them injuns till the Cavalry got there.

Pam...hmmm, gonna get me a little can of Pam, I guess. That sounds interesting. I normally just wipe down the cylinder pin after I fire up my 3 cylinders. By that time, they're gettin' a little tight. I usually just fire 18 rounds with the Remmy and clean and reload it for future use, though. Just got thorugh doing that. Had to check the accuracy of my new ball cast from my new Lee .454 RB mold. Seems just as accurate as the Speer swagged stuff and hits dead on.
