I'm looking for a fixed power 4x scope for mount on my FAL as sort of a poor man's ACOG.

I'm considering a Nikon Monarch 4x40, a Leupold M8 4x33mm, a Weaver K-4 4x38, or maybe a Burris Compact 4x

Have any of you had any good or bad experiences with any of these? Would you recommend something else? I'd prefer something around $200, compact, with 3x or 4x power.

Funny thing is, you pretty much just described a trilux/suit sight. Bout the price range as well. They work very well, I have two.:)

Have you looked at the Trijicon Accupoint line of scopes? I believe they run about $299; but have many of the same advantages as the ACOG (being made by the same people) and some the ACOGs don't have (like variable zoom and more eye relief). I believe they make a 1-4x and a 3-9x Accupoint.

Be very careful which scope you buy, FALs have a reputation for destroying scopes.

Yes, that is a primary concern I have.

Has anybody had a FAL kill their scope(aside from a cheap Tasco or Simmons)? If so, what kind of scope was it?

Oh yea, I forgot about the Trilux. I actually tried one of those fairly recently on another guy's AR. I liked it.

Will a Trilux mount on a regular Weaver rail, or does it require a special mount?

Why are FALs hard on scopes? I didn't know that. I've heard that about M1As, but not FALs.

Please elaborate.

Thanks,
Steve

I personally think FALs are pretty mild on scopes. I've compared H&K91 rifles to M1As and FALs and the FAL had the least recoil.

I've had a 3-12x40mm Sightron my FAL for about 3000rds and haven't had any problems with the scope.

Sodapop:
Its not the recoil, its the bolt carrier slamming forward against the front of the reciever (or something like that, nobody is 100% sure). Poorly designed scopes do not support the optics against this motion/force so they get chewed up rather quickly.

You might also want to check out the IOR 4x24 scopes. I have no personal experience with them but people that do tend to like them.
